How a Pontiac got it's name

I posted a thread yesterday from Thornhill cruise with some serious classic cars, the Cord and Auburn especially got my attention. Maybe you know but  Auburn built not only Auburns but also Cords and Dusenbergs.

John Deloren was enthralled with Duseys so he used them as imspiration for the 1969 Grand Prix, long hoods short tails, even borrowing the names. Model J and Model SJ.

Here's some 1933 Model SJ's.

I just did a quick calcualtion taking into account the value of money and inflation in the US. The US price index is 100 in 1967.  I come up with $280,000 in today's currency!!

doesn't even sound that bad ! still way too much for a car today but I think theres an easier way to make 280 today that 30 in the peak of the great depression (not that I've figured it out !)

I seen that car at the Imperial Palace in Vegas back in '89. It was the star of the Dusenburg Room Collection. The best part of my Las Vegas holiday.

Ray. There is a good story in Collectible Automobile about one of my fav's, the 69-72 Grand Prix's with lots of great Johnny De stories intertwined. Just can't remember what issue. The Duesy connection was a nice touch as were the door handles in 69. A work of art. The first time I saw one (on the way to school) I thought it was a Mercedes.
