This is a bit of a long shot but does anyone happen to have one of these for sale? A guy I know is looking for one. It would have been the accessory tach in GM vehicles in the mid 60's. It should say "GM" on it where the "Pontiac" plate is on this one. Oh, or it could also have a Chevy bowtie on it in that spot as well.
Thanks

I've seen the knee knocker bowtie ones sell for over 3000 dollars on ebay...yikes yes 3 zeros. but those did have a bowtie, so im sure they were a premium price.

MY BEAUMONT HAS 4 STUDDED TIRES AND 2 BLOCKHEATERS......AND LOTS OF OIL UNDERNEATH. The other one has a longer roof.
I actually have one hanging under the dash of my 66. I'll try to post a picture tomorrow if you guys are interested. It looks identical to the one on the ebay link.
You bet Carl, first thing tomorrow, and to tell you the truth it is for sale as i was always planning to use a factory tach which I have found (little dented on the surround but not bad.) However, I'd like to get the the market price for it as I'm desparately trying to raise some bucks to build my electric 38 Willys pickup over the winter (S10 chassis).
Well, I had acquired this 38 Willys pickup about 20 years ago and was going to stick it on an S10 Blazer Chassis as the wheel base and width was compatible, plus the old frame was toast. I was in Tofino this spring and noticed an S10 pickup that had been comverted to full electric power.
This started me thinking that for a small run around town kind of rod this might a good approach and would on average at least make me an environmentally good guy when you factor in the 66 Grande Parisienne 396 with Air that would be the other extreme. (which has taken a bit of a back seat recently as this project kind of gets me excited.)
There is a guy on Vancouver Island that has done all the engineering for the conversion and offers a (pricey) kit. It needs a 2wd manual transmission with manual steering. My parts truck has all that stuff so it was a real good fit that way.
So I have committed to buy his kit which will save me a lot of headscratching.
According to testimonials and his web site I can expect performance comparable to the V6 I was orginally planning to use in this, as well as a range of about 60 klicks so for a locally used rod this would be really slick.
I was actually planning to leave it in primer if I even get that far and not gussy it up too much,
Even with packing around a load of 24 golf cart 6 V deep cycle Batteries I think I have shot a keeping toal weight down to about 2500-3000 lbs with this setup.
Am I crazy or just ahead (behind) the times?

I just sold one of these tachs for $900, which was in good used but unknown condition. They used to sell for 3,000 for an absolutely perfect restored one but the market has a flat tire. I have a couple of reproduction tach faces, and bowtie stickers for them too.

The biggest factor driving the price up is they are the only tach that is "correct" for 66 Nova (as in the only year for L79 Nova) and those guys cough up for them.

Hi Carl here are a couple of pretty poor pictures i was able to take tonight. I couldn't figure out my wife's camera (couldn't find mine) and the pontiac is in a real tight spot.
I think you'll be able to see what it actually is at least. It's still hooked up to the car and I didn't want to cut any wires to get it out. I'll have to get the car out once I have a bit of time and take it out properly and take some decent shots.

Carl, The L79 was available on 1966, 1967, and 1968 Chevy II's in the US(I cant speak for the Canadian market). The biggest driving factor behind the price of this tach is the fact that they were not factory installed. No 1966 Nova came off the assembly line with a tachometer. This is a dealer installed accessory item. It is a "correct" addition for any 1966 Chevrolet model, including impala/ chevelle / pick-up truck / corvair etc. They were also sold by Montgomery Wards(old department store chain). We have owned, restored, and sold many of these. Many people are after these, which is why they are priced so high. Supply and demand, ya know.

You are correct, of course. Not sure where my head was. On Sunday evening I posted a pic here of a documented Canadian 68 L79 Nova!
As far as the 67's go, last I heard there was still no documented 67 Nova L79 car.

Theres a documented '68 neerby to me, it has the original paperwork but with a '69 or '70 CE replacement motor. 67s and 68's were "detuned" to 325hp. Cast iron intakes, and different carbs. 66's had Holleys, and 67/68 had quadrajets.
The L79 was still rated at 350 hp for the Chevy II and the Corvette but detuned for the Chevelle to 325 hp in 67. Suffix code ZI ZJ and ZG for Chevy II . Aluminum Manifold #3890490 with a Holley flange used for 66 an 67 years and manifold cast iron # 3919803 for 68 .
