Tachometer wanted

The L79 was still rated at 350 hp for the Chevy II and the Corvette but detuned for the Chevelle to 325 hp in 67. Suffix code ZI ZJ and ZG for Chevy II . Aluminum Manifold #3890490 with a Holley flange used for 66 an 67 years and manifold cast iron # 3919803 for 68 .

I disagree. factory assembly manuals are not intirely accurate. I cant speak for Chevelle or Corvette... but 1967 US Chevy II L79s had cast iron intakes, and quadrajets. Find me a documented one to prove me wrong and i'll eat my size 10 1/2 leather boot. Apparently there were only 6 made.

 Re: L79 confusion

You're right, my bad. I was looking at the code column; 5481 is the correct number for 66. clonk.gif

The same report for 67 shows 6 for the Chevy II.

Don't know about Acadian's but Canada often had or didn't have the same equipment as the U.S. counterpart.

I submit the following from my Chevrolet Parts book, circa 1972.

#1 - The same Holley carburetors are shown for 1966 and 1967 Chevy II and Chevelle, 327 special high performance engines.
#2 & #3 - The same intake is shown for 1966 and 1967 Chevy II and Chevelle w/327 special high performance.

Quote:
the 66 had the allum intake and holley the 67 cast intake and q jet. the chevelle had the holley not the nova.
As only one intake is shown and only Holley carburetors shown for this application, I'd have to see a 1967 Chevy II assembly instruction manual to see if the L79 in the U.S. came with a cast iron intake and Q-Jet. Do you have some reference that says the 67 Chevy II (not Acadian) came with a Q-Jet and cast iron intake?

I got the info from Chevrolet by the numbers. It did say only 6 Chevy II 's though. Are there 6 documented Chevy II's ?  And did they have Quads ?

No documented 67 L79 cars. Lots of "for sure it's original" claims but nobody has yet showed indisputable evidence/documents.

The theory is they were iron intake/Qjet carb.

I used to buy & see lots of Pontiac tachs and console vacuum gauges in Barrie for $25-30 bucks. Now when you see these on e-bay they go for hundreds of dollars.

My understanding(which may be inaccurate) on the situation is that the count came from the engine assembly plant. The plant that built them only recorded 6 being made with the L79 option.  All the experts believe they were quadrajets. As there were only 6 made, no one knows for sure, and with their rarity ones that show up are  heavily scrutinized. A couple of them that are around apparently claim to have protecto plates, and documentation. There are probably more '67 L79s around now than was built by Chevrolet.evileye

Thanks for the info Doug.  Looks like another GM mystery.

Back to business.  This is info for Carl.

Here are a few pics of the kneeknocker I pulled out of my 66.

The harness is complete and in really nice shape, connections are labelled, the light works, it still has the plastic mounting insulator and original screws and it works!
I tested it on my 396 tonight.  It's basically plug and play.

Its missing the id plate, the plastic lens is a bit scuffed as a 40 year old piece would be and there are some pits in the chrome especially around the face where it unites with the ID plate.

Pretty decent actually.
