Dropped by today to give him George's business card at Vintage, no more bites, told him he may still be too rich, at least that seems to be the consensus on here.

What do you think of this? There's a guy here selling a one owner 27K mile 68 Impala 4 door sedan. Nice car with mint interior, all original including paint & bias plies, but needs to be painted. Had it for sale locally & on e-bay for $24K. No takers of course.
It's the old story John, a lot of people don't understand the relationship between what is rare and what is desireable. They obviously don't understand or know the collector car market either. I've seen cars like Rambler Americans with extremely low miles on them that people couldn't give away, even though it was essentially a new car. You would think like real estate, people who don't know anything about what they are trying to sell would employ the services of a professional agrent to help price the vehicle, know what the market is like, advertise in the right places, etc., but some people think just because it's a car, they can just put a ridiculous price on it, put it on ebay, and it will magically sell itself. The only other scenario is that they don't really want to sell, and are just putting it out there so they can say: "Honey, I tried".

The interesting thing about this car was I looked at it last year, wasn't interested myself at the time as I was space short, but gave the owner all the OCPG and NADA material I had, along with the names of registered appraisers so he could get some idea what the car was worth. I also gave him my contact info. I never heard from him; then saw the ad & ebay listing about 2 months ago (ebay starting price $24K, 0 feedback seller, not one bid received).
Anyway, the owner called me last week to see if I might be interested. I told him I'd think about it as I'm looking at two other cars (true), and get back to him; but I was quite clear that his asking price is way too high and I wouldn't consider it for anything near that. He seemed to realize the price was high and indicated that a relative had posted all the ads.
Nice car but if I spend that kind of money it will be on a factory big block B body, not a small block powerglide no options 4 dr sedan.
