Dont know if this is happening outside of Ontario, but the M O E is stopping older cars, right now mid 80's & late 70's for roadside visual inspections. & the fine [read tax grab] is a $ 460 for each piece missing. Here's the "kicker" if you have re-powered, you now have to have all the emmission "crap" that came with the engine, ie. 95 SBC in a mid 70's car, you need all the 95 emm. stuff. I know one person who got "dinged" 86 engine in 72 van, $460 EGR disconnected, & they said they could go on & on with fines, he ended up taking van off the road,as it would be too expensive to put all the 86 stuff on van. MOE has all the info in computor, so you can't "lie" to what yr. the block is, no # it's up to you to prove yr. of block with paper proof!!! This also applies to crate engines so we were told when a friend contacted MOE, what ever yr. the engine was bought, emm. must be for that yr. they also said they will be going after the hot rodders & street machines in the "near future" Doesn't this just " frost you cookies!!! Think they want the money & get you off the road!!!!

Is this another initiative from Dalton McSquinty, or his storm trooper, Benito Fantino?
You would think they would have better things to do with our tax dollars than harass hobbyists who would be lucky to put a 1,000 km a year on their cars.
I guess all the real criminals have all been caught, there is no organized crime anymore, there are no illegal guns and drugs being smuggled in, no environmental issues or problems other hobbyists cruising over to a local parking lot once a week, yes, we are the cause of all the smog, the polluted water table, etc, etc.

Prior to this thread, I'd never have pulled over for a MOE "green and white" EnvironForce car, red lights flashing or not. Figured they were after big rigs and poachers.
Now, I can see that they TOO have full police powers over us. "Yassir, mister ossifer, sir.......I is pullin over. No that's alright. I'll just walk home. Jut let me get my sackcloth and ashes costume out of the trunk, okay?"
I wonder how they would determine the year of the engine? There are so many codes etc that I doubt the MOE could figure it out..
I have a nice clean PCV in one of my valve covers. That is the entire extent of anti-pollution requirements on my 1967.
I'd love to meet the MOE guys who know more than us hobbyists what underhood stuff should look like.
I have a laminated copy of the original window sticker in the glovebox, showing the N14 dual side exhaust as a facory installed option on the car. Not my fault that people liked loud cars in 1967.

How ironic, in that link posted they talk about cracking down on trucks in Hamilton. Meanwhile smoke stacks belch who knows what from the factories in the background...
I'm in Durham Region, just north of Oshawa,& Bowmanville, [just east of Toronto for the other guys] so far 5 people I know have been stopped, & I heard on radio talk show, that other old car owners were calling in & complaining of being harrassed. OPP seem to work with th MOE & have safety checks going on in same area. A friend got stopped in Port Perry in a 73 Caprice rag top [all stock] had to follow OPP back to inspection area, cop said they were getting these "crap cans off the road" 73 passed with no defects & D. O. T. guy said it was very well maintained, OPP was "pissed" off, wasted time on that one!!!! The MOE seems to be hitting in Bowmanville, Port Perry, & Uxbridge area's in Durham Region, OPP & durham cops, are set up in the Port Perry & Manchester area's

Early 69 & down engines will be OK as no Emm. were on them. I'm told MOE has the block codes in their Computor [yr of block is all they need] if they "think" it's an emm. engine, then it's up to you to prove them wrong. How many A I R pumps have been tossed, now you'll be searching for on, if caught, OH BTW, the Emm. stuff just has to be there, visually, doesn't have to work, "what a crock of %$#" but they'll fine you if it's missing

If the MOE is checking engine block vintage (requiring actual emission readings to match engine vintage rather than ownership vintage) and it's enforceable, this hobby is on its way to being over.
Every T-bucket out there will be pulled over and almost all will fail. Almost all muscle cars that have later-model replacement blocks will have trouble passing, or will fail. Not many muscle cars do not have replacement blocks.
They're only getting started. They may not care if smog pumps, etc. are actually working, but it's coming.
Two Ministry Impala's tucked in behind me this morning on my way to work. You guys got me paranoid, I'm driving my late model Cadillac and I'm waiting for the light bars to come on
GM sells a 350 replacement engine and sells it for all pre 1986 cars. There seems to be a disconnect here.

I don't want to put a "downer" on this ,but, 73sc's add from the "General" says can be used , doesn't say it will be allowed by the MOE. I'm as PO'd as the rest of you on this, yes this could "kill" the hobby, Mc GOOFY wants us all to run out & buy the new cars we are part owner in especially the $ 40.000 VOLT but on only having CCP as a pension $ 576.00 a month won't cut it for any new vehicle!!!! & the oshawa boys retired from GM say they can't live on almost $3000 a mth. I'll trade any day

Here's another example. Proposed Bill C-319 is working its way through the House of Commons and will speed limit all new vehicles sold in Canada to 150kph (90mph).
