I just got home from picking up a real nice "survivor" Bonneville Brougham. I just drove it through the worst imaginable long weekend bumper-to-bumper traffic (rain all the way) for 4.5 hours and it purred like a kitten.

Everything but the clock, trip odometer and one taillight bulb works.

P.S.; P.B.; P.W.; P.D.L.; pulse wipers; Comfortron Air; AM radio with rear speaker; rear defroster; cruise control; power trunk; gauge package; remote left and right mirrors.........it all works.

With those rear gears, I was amazed at how it cruises at 75 mph, with ease.

I got the original Protect-O-Plate and, sure enough, it was purchased new from Foster Pontiac in Agincourt by the father of the guy I bought it from. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it.....but it is a completely original survivor.

Photos tomorrow, if it ever stops raining.

I'm happy with it. smile

I couldn't believe how many times the traffic came to a complete stop. 680NEWS said the eastbound 401 was a nightmare through Toronto, so I took the 407 (cha-ching, cha-ching) and it was stop and go too. At the end of the 407, traffic was 5 mph no matter which route I tried.

It finally got back to normal (whatever that is) east of Oshawa.

Was every car owner in Southern Ontario on the freakin' road today? evileye

Very nice cruiser. These cars have long legs. My 75 Parisienne 455 was the only car that I ever drove over the 120 mph max showing on the speedo.

$200 profit? I spent more than that on sales tax, not to mention gas for two cars and lunch for the second driver........and a day off work.......and a safety to come (probably tailpipe and two tires).....and a temporary trip permit....and......and.....and.

$9,600 and it's yours.

Sure sounds like a cool car. I don't imagine it will win any fuel economy contests but who cares!

I filled up before I left and again when I got home. Believe it or not, Carl, it got 21 mpg in stop and go and then motoring at 75m (123k)  for the last half hour east of the bad traffic. And this thing weighs over 4600 lbs.

It's got just over 60,600 miles on it. Last year for miles.

Any idea what the rear end gears are Bob?  If they're 2.56s like my Green Monster, your top end should be just about "unlimited" , that is until the laws of aerodynamics and physics come into play.wink

I believe they are 2.56, as you say, but I'll check. And, yet, it is no slouch on acceleration either.

Meanwhile, I'm getting ready to post photos, so those with "concerns" should consider this a WARNING!!!

Radial Tuned Suspension option package which included the steel-belted radial tires along with an upgraded suspension with Pliacell shock absorbers and front and rear sway bars.....




You won't recognize that 400-4V after I clean it up.....

Was the "Radial Tuned Suspension" actually an option?  I thought all Pontiacs of that vintage got that plaque on the dash.  A friend of mine bought a 75 Lemans brand new, very basic car, 350, ps, pb, auto, am radio and that was about it and it had that plaque on the dash as well.

The man I bought it from inherited it in 1989. He kept it all these years as a memory of his father and drove it occasionally on summer weekends to keep it active.

Now that he's in his mid-50's, and the mortgage is paid off, he's got the itch for a Corvette, so the Bonneville had to go to make room in the garage.

Before anyone gets the bright idea of accusing me of having the middle-age crazies for having a Corvette, I had it before I was old enough to vote (in those days). I wasn't middle-age crazy........I was just crazy. biggrin

The more I look this car over, the more I think it'll stay a survivor. I'm betting most of the paint is original too.

In 1975 Radial tires became standard on all GM cars. Pontiac decided to badge all of their cars with this begining in 1975.

Apparently, the Radial Tuned Suspension option was expanded for 1974 to all full-sized Pontiacs, though an upgraded "RTS" package was still available as an option.

Now, I'm trying to find out if FE8 was the option code for the RTS or the upgraded RTS.......if indeed there was an upgraded RTS.

That's funny, Carl.

I was just checking the equivalent modern tire size for the original HR78-15. They're
P225/75R15, P235/70R15, P255/60R15 or P275/50R15. Right now, the car sits on a set of P225/75R15.

I'm wondering how those Rally II wheels would look with a set of P255/60R15 redlines.

I know, I know. That black Bonneville probably looks best with white walls. Maybe wide whitewalls?
