Hark! Hark! The Lark! Actually two of them smile.gif

Wonder what they had for motive power, maybe the Avanti supercharged engine???

The other 3 pictures show on my PC as white box with red X ... ???

They all show up for me Dave but I have had trouble uploading all day, got lots of red x's and had to keep retrying until they finally "stuck".

Lots of cars there for me. Love the green 64 Catalina 2+2 and the 67 black on red Impala.

I purchased my Pure Stock Muscle Contender yesterday. Sorry-it's not a Pontiac or a GM. I am a sucker for Virgil Exner's over-the-top styling. Imagine this in your rear view mirror on a dark night on a desolate highway:

59DodgeD500010.jpg

She's a 59 Dodge Royal D500 2 door hardtop. Just like the Pontiac, she last saw the road in 1977. I found it less than 30 minutes from home. How could this be a Pure Stock Contender: She has the very rare D500 option- 320hp 383, torqueflite trans, big brakes and HD suspension. 37000 orig miles.
The fellow I bought it from is 78 years old. He imported the car from the U.S and didn't bother to register it! It took 5 hours of red tape to get the car into my name. I don't want to go through that again. I had a very understanding fellow at Canada Customs and it probably helped that he owns a 70 Road Runner.
Finally coming home:
59DodgeD500002.jpg

More:
59DodgeD500013.jpg
I even got a broadcast sheet!
59Dodge028.jpg

Factory dual exhaust:

59Dodge036.jpg

This is what makes it special. Kind of like finding an SD Beaumont:
59Dodge027.jpg

The 500 designates the amount Dodge had to build to qualify for NASCAR

The downside- the interior was vandalized. The perfect interior was slashed with a knife. The windshield has a big hole in it (seller gave me a replacement)
There's a couple of weak spots in the floors. He doesn't know this but Gus will be recruited to perform apply his welding art to repair them. It also needs exhaust etc. It's a project and a pretty good investment.
Needless to say, it's pretty tight in the garage right now!
59DodgeD500014.jpg

All the stress of yesterday has caught up with me. I'm now sick as a dog with some sort of stomach bug and a killer migraine. I'm going back to bed now..

Todd, that is absolutely fantastic, congrats! I too am a huge fan of Exner and his "Suddenly it's 1960 styling". Those factory tips are awesome. How did the 59 Dodges do in Nascar that season?

Haha. I was hesitant to post it on here but what the heck. I think we all appreciate old cars regardless of the brand. One thing I do notice is parts aren't quite as reasonable as they are for my Pontiac. The seller has a bunch of spares that I am going to pick up on the weekend if I can finangle a truck from someone. The seller also has a MINT 62 Chrysler 300H. He may send it up to the Toronto Auction. He is thinking about selling all his car stuff and is moving out east. I might have to find local storage for the Laurentian so that I can have some room to work on the Dodge. My priority is to get it running and stopping. When Earl and I went to look at it we didn't have high expectations- most of these cars are extremely rotted. We just about fell over when he removed the car cover!

More pics:

59Dodge013.jpg

59Dodge031.jpg

The seats even have factory covers on them- I'm sure there's an interesting story behind the slashing of them.. disbelief
59Dodge011.jpg

The broadcast sheet guru's have decoded the broadcast sheet. She has a few interesting options like the convenience package (courtesy lights, glove box, ashtray, trunk lamp, vanity mirror), rear speaker with fader knob, clock, rear plate frame (apparently extremely rare) but no power brakes. Yikes. The car was built to order on Dec 10, 58.

I'm sure that car has a very interesting history Todd, when you feel better, you will have to tell us more.  How did you even find out about it, or have you known about this car for a long time and finally the right moment just came up to buy it?

PS love the interior rear view mirror on the dash - what were those Chrysler engineers thinking?biggrin

Wow, what a beauty Todd! Hope you can find some NOS seat covers.

Show us some pictures of the motor! (when you are feeling well enough to hold a camera)

When Todd is feeling better biggrin  He should start a new Nascar post and show off the big Goat!    Many will miss it  stuck on the drag race article confuse  my 2 cents   I like the big car!   My Dad worked at CN, and told me of his boss taking him for a ride in his 57 Chrysler..  All I remember was him saying it had 2 carbs and would go 135mph evileye  that was in the 60's

The engine isn't much to look at. The valve covers look to have been replaced with later ones-the orig are either silver or red depending on who you ask. They should also have D500 plates or decals (again depending on who you ask)
59DodgeD500009.jpg

My headache finally broke so I decided to hook a battery up to the car. The headlights, one tail light, plate bulb, dome lights (two of em on each side-fancy!) , glove box light worked. Radio inop. Heater controls stuck. Horn works! Wipers work! I enjoy working on the electrical bits and pieces-getting the radio, gauges, heater etc working again. I did a quick starter engagement and that works too.
Luckily the headliner is mint as they are damn near impossible to find-they are a cardboard material:
59Dodge020.jpg

Underneath:

The rear suspension has 5 leafs.

59DodgeD500003.jpg
59Dodge008.jpg

59Dodge018.jpg
That yellow drum is the parking brake- it's on the back of the transmission.

I was lucky enough to get the latest issue of Old Auto's on Friday. I had seen this car about 12 years ago. I went to look at a 65 Belvedere Kansas HWY Patrol Car and the fellow showed me his dads collection which was all Mopar- a 70 300H, Hemi GTX etc.  This car was part of it. It blew me away back then. I didn't realize this was the same car until I asked the seller yesterday. I knew I had to act fast as most people would have their copy on Monday!
