Wow! Sweet and rare car. My '62 Impala SS has a '65 QB solid lifter 409, no doubt because the first owner dragged the thing up in New Jersey. That car deserves to be restored.
'64 Parisienne CS "barn find" - last on the road in '86 ... Owner Protection Plan booklet, original paint, original near-mint aqua interior, original aqua GM floor mats, original 283, factory posi, and original rust.
I wasnt on the site in 2009, missed this thread until now. That is such an original and rare car, make sure lots on pics of everything are taken before any work is done, it is a unique piece of history. A solid lifter 409 I assume?
How many miles on it?

From the pics and hard to tell, but is that an aluminum intake? My 63-340hp is cast iron. A 400hp would have an aluminum intake and be solid lifter.

Its a 340 horse 409 cast iron intake. It just flipped over 100,000 miles. I too lost a drive shaft to a one two shift, I just chalked it up to a weak u joint. Im probably going to leave it as original as possible but make it comfortable to ride in. New roof rail seals, carpet and maybe repo seat covers. I will change all fluids and tune up. Will check brakes and repack wheel bearings. Think I did brakes but cant remember. It had a paint job years ago and is far from perfect but still shines up decent. When I bought this years ago I put a water pump on it gave it a quick wash and vacuum and drove the hell outta it. Ive been giving it a detail with toothbrush and cleaners. Its time the old girl got a good and easy retirement! For some reason this one didnt get my improvements of the day my other cars got. You know the headers ,straight pipes, hack the dash and door panels for a stereo type improvements.
Maybe the cost would be too high, and maybe it's even unreasonable and too personal to even suggest it, but of any CP I've seen lately, this one certainly deserves the total restoration treatment.
It's gorgeous.
