Today was the day I decided to replace the ignition wires on the Chief. Got a set for "under the manifold" from Rock Auto for $ Can 36.00, delivered to my door. The suppliers here could not get the correct ones. Two different tries, both for over the manifolds. Plus, wanted about $80.00.
Things went so well I decided to replace the gasket and donut on the starboard [right] side exhaust manifold. This took a bit more knuckle busting. Forgot you must drop the idler arm for clearance. Anyways, got 'er done. Tomorrow we attack the port [left] manifold.
The tractor has nothing to do with it - just thought it was a cool shot I took last week.
Fred
I wish I had known you were having trouble. AC Delco has the right ones. It took me two tries with them to get the right ones (and I'm the parts guy!) because they have them catalogued wrong. Second try was great, good price, great fit and they AC Delco on them to boot, which I like!

Got the trans cooler fitted. Needed a new bracket as I'm no longer using a rad spacer. Rad and fan in place.
Happy with the config.
Should have fire this weekend! A very long project finally close to completion...
I would like to come see Mark when shes up and running
Drop by anytime Kevin. It's on the road! And it's a beast!...that needs tuning to be sure (Hear the lean popping. Now gone). But it picks the car up like nothing, and my transmission actually works..mostly. I installed the parking pawl bracket backwards, so no park (beginners mistake). So the pan has to come off at some point. Parking brake for now. But she shifts solid through the gears, gets rubber anytime, and the Coan converter works really well. Enough vacuum for the brakes as well. Runs at a steady 180 degrees (I am a big fan of Champion Rads). No leaks. I installed a single wideband O2 sensor with the gauge temporarily up on the dash, so it should be a good tool for tuning.
There can be nothing more satisfying than having those years of work carry you down the road. The car no longer has any mild attitude, and I really like it. Kid says its obnoxious. Awesome, what more can I say.

'64 Parisienne CS "barn find" - last on the road in '86 ... Owner Protection Plan booklet, original paint, original near-mint aqua interior, original aqua GM floor mats, original 283, factory posi, and original rust.
Finally found the clunk in my front end!!! Been driving me nuts since last year, only happens when hitting speed bumps or pot holes at 50-80 kph. Checked over the whole front end 10 x looking for loose bolts and things contacting each other. Thought it was my swaybar so bought new bushings..not. Turned out to be the inner spring cover. Removed it and no more clunk. Spring is seating properly top and bottom so cover must have a tweak, will put in a 3/16 gasket. One more thing off the list before road trip...only a couple more to go!
A little more tuning on the BB. Moved up to 73's for 70 on the IAB jets (idle air bleeds), to counter a pig rich idle. Still don't think I'm correct on the transfer slots. Probably will drop down a size on the IFR jets (Idle fuel restriction). Some cruise surge, but I chock it up to the mech curve, which I have yet to really examine. I installed a Innovate wideband O2 sensor, and my numbers aren't way out. Kind of in the 11-13 range most of the time, running 13 at cruise and dropping to 11 at WOT. Probably could go leaner at cruise and richer at WOT. Running better every day as it breaks in and loosens up.
One issue with the trans though, it makes a whining/whirring sound when I let off. Gets fainter as things heat up. The web says it could be the pump, pressure regulator, a leak in the filter pickup tube, or worst case, something wrong internally. Shifts absolutely perfect. Not too soft, not too firm at subdued driving, harder when you get in it. Have to pull the trans pan anyway, since I assembled the parking pawl bracket backwards, and need to switch it to get park. What I see in the bottom of the pan will tell all. If nothing seen, then we won't worry. We can hope.
Had her out in the country today and left my mark(s). The thing has some torque!. Best be careful.
Quick bite of the idle sound,

Yeah, sounds like she's ready for action. Took my first maiden run with my little 283 for a 5 hour drive to Kamloops and back to pick up some tires. Just so happy with it. Have started plans to head to "Back to the Fifties" in Minneapolis for next year. That will be a few days of driving. Little over 2600 kilometres one way.

Driveway...1962 Hillman apart in garage waiting for its exotic little automatic transmission to be put back in.
Lincolns today. Continental wants a water pump, Towncar has massive transmission leak. One down, one to go. Seal didn't want to come out without a battle.
All the best to everyone, have a wonderful weekend.
Sorry, goofed that post up...Garage occupied by 1962 Hillman waiting for exotic little automatic transmission to be reinstalled.
Lincolns today in the driveway. White Continental wants a water pump, Towncar has a massive transmission leak. One down, one to go. Old seal was a battle all the way.
Thanks to questions answered by the help of Carl S, Gayne, Darryl and Don I managed to have a taller core fitted to my radiator. It also has 50 percent more tubes. Fitted it the other day and, apart from fixing a small leak on the heater hose, it runs super cool even in the moderate heat we just had. Also cleared a blocked windscreen washer jet so now ready to find out what the MOT tester thinks of the rest of her................
I feel for ya Rog, did the same last fall, only not quite on your scale. Mom & Dad did a good job of purging and downsizing before the move. Dad is a car guy as well so had to combine his 24'x 26' shop of "stuff" into my 26' x 30'. We are still trying find where we put stuff or which shed it is in, LOL
Mom loves apartment life in the city, Dad is getting used to it. Funny I see a lot more of him now...
Good luck with Grad and enjoy car time when you get it.
I had seen what a mess my brother left his family when he died suddenly. They auctioned off all his salvage boats and I think about 22 vehicles and a whole whack of parts and tools/equipment. Some of it went for pennies on the dollar, but it was just too much to try to sell it piece by piece. I vowed I would not do that to my family.
I started the cleanup about 2 years ago, we moved last October and I have not really missed very much of it. The odd time someone has needed something that I had sold, scrapped or given away but not a big deal.
