What was your Thanksgiving Meal ?

We had 11 family members for dinner yesterday. My wife is one of the best cooks I know and I look forward to her turkey meal. I'm pretty good at helping out too. I prepared 10 lbs. of Yukon Gold for mashing and I get to carve the bird.

Well I started off the evening by mixing up a nice batch of Manhattans, I make a pretty darn good Manhattan if I do say so myself. Served straight up to our guests around the fireplace while Mary and I got things organized in the Kitchen.

Menu was as follows, Turkey, a Presidient's choice fresh bird, a Sweet Virginia Ham, Yukon Gold Mashed, Stuffing, Cheesed Cawliflower, Brocolli, sweet buttered carrots, cranberry sauce and fresh baked rolls, gravy of course. My mother-in -law baked one of my favourites, Triangular Spanakopitas. We served Martini and Rossi Asti with the meal, usually i would have had a nice Chardonnay but i changed it up and everyone loved the sparkling wine. Dessert was Pumpkin Pie and fresh whipped cream and an apple cake tea and coffee, followed by a round of Drambuies by the fire.  hungry.gif

We had 6. We invited our two elderly neighbors and another neighbor who lives around the corner. He had a bad accident on a snowmobile (hit by a plow-wasn't his fault) and now cannot work and has massive headaches just about every day). Connie worked her usual magic:
Turkey, mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes, gravy, cranberries, homemade rolls (two varieties), an amazing cabbage salad, and for dessert homemade pumpkin pie with homemade whipped cream as well as mixed berries for those who don't like pumpkin pie. MMMMM!

Todd, that is a very nice gesture you and Connie offered your nieghbours, very much in the spirit of Thanksgiving.

Hillar now that eating season has officially begun, once you are better you'll have to come over for a good home cooked meal.

Sorry to hear that Hillar. Certainly a good way to kill Thanksgiving spirit.

We went 3 hours south and had a family weekend at a hotel in Fargo, North Dakota. We ate 4 times in 48 hours at our favourite Mexican place. Hardly turkey and stuffing but we all love it there, so why not???!!!

That's a good idea Carl, I know it is a tremendous amount of work for my wife to organize and cook that feast. She does it without complaint but once in a while I think it would be nice for her to have a break. The important thing is that you shared the time with your loved ones.

Ray i think was a great thread to start, sounds like you had an awesome dinner. If i knew you a couple years ago i would have had you tend bar at our wedding!

Hillar, get better bud and find yourself leftovers, only thing better than eating on Turkey day.

Carl2, Happy anniversary...oh great, now i have the anniversary song from the Flintsones in my head!...ohhhhh, happy anniversary, happy anniversary...

Todd, there's our leader setting a great example sharing his table with friends and neighbours.

The three of us in my little family joined most of the rest of the family at my in laws, my parents were there and my wife's family. Felix got to meet a lot of them! He even got to see his two great grandmothers, along with all four grand parents and a cousin, second cousins and great aunt, uncle. Oh yeah, we ate too! Turkey, ham, scalloped potatoes, mini potatoes, beans with almonds, carrots, coleslaw, stuffing, cranberries, pumpkin pie, apple pie, some AMAZING home made Turtles cheesecake, ice cream and we stopped at great grandma's on my father in law's side and had some delicious Hungarian desserts, not sure what they were called but tasty!

Way to go Carl.

And here I thought all along that God had favoured me by sending me the best wife ever! Now I don't know who's right, you or me??? Hahaha, just kidding, what a blessing to have a wife who supports us in ALL we do, whether it's stupid to them or not!

IMG_0024(1).JPGWhich one? Went to my son's and did a chicken thing and then we had about 30 family over on Monday and did a huge turkey with homebuilt dressing and the works. Man I'm blessed with a great cook, too!

Still on a turkey high from Monday eve's meal at the folks place in Tyrone..
I'm very blessed to still have both my parents and Mom's cooking beats all others...especially in the gravy department!.
Even though I wasn't very hungry, a couple bites in and I was eating like a starving man!.
Mom's pies and coffee topped off the evening...I'm still full..
