427Carl,
Thank for the pic and the references. If I can't get the filler tube locally then I will make one. The pic gives enough detail.  The local V8 supplier charges about R2400 for a shifter about Can $300. which is reasonable as I don't have to pay postage and import tax.  This realy helps me to know what to look for!

Thanks again!
I had some visitors from Clarksburg this week looking into expanding this plants product range.  Andy could not believe it when he saw my Malibu!

Somebody up there looks after me!  The LG4 engine is in running order!  all it needs is a carburettor service, Altenator and it looks as if the 250CID starter fits on the 305 as the Bell housings have exactly the same pattern. No body adaptation required!  The engine is going to be a looker! Here it is as of this afternoon!

The intake is aluminium GM CFM 44 Part no 14057053 for the Rochester QuatroJet.  Looks like it has been made to give good airflow.  Thanks for the Wow.

Interchange on Chevy engines is wonderful. When I pulled out the original 6 cylinder 194 on my 65 Acadian, I removed the flywheel and starter, put them onto the 427 and bolted it into the car!

Same thing with a distributor. Fits from a 283 to a 454. Gotta love it!

My 1994 Impala SS LT1 is running a starter from a 1965 Acadian 194. Just bolt it on and hook up the wires.

SBC-casting-date.jpg

Date code decodes as letter for month, day of month and last digit of year. Month code A=Jan, B=Feb, ... to L=Dec. Example: D 25 8 decodes as April, 25th 1968. Some blocks may also have the block date codes listed on the passenger side of the block. If you have an early big block or a late model small block, then the block casting date may be located on the passenger side of the engine block instead of the rear ledge of the block.

Thanks for all the great comments!aww
The engine will have to wait a bit as the car is being stripped of all its trim this weekend and then taken for the spray job!
Can't put that nice engine in a dirty car!

The Kommando is being re-sprayed to its original color, Yellow with a touch of lime!
Hope the pic will show it up. The last spray job looks like a six-pack weekend f***up!

Nice being employed at 66yrs old!biggrin
Body is in for spray, Seats are in for re-upholstery to original specs. Amazing what money can do!biggrin
Here are some pics of the engine fitment and other bits!
Advice needed!  Changing to a Holley Carb as the QuatroJet cannot be re-furbished due to no kits availble locally.  Holley advises a 390 CFM whilst locally the suggestions vary from 450 CFM to 650 CFM.  What would you suggest for the 305 LG4 engine?
Here are pics of the engine bay, nice fit no mods, seat pattern required, targeted end product!biggrin

I find that most guys go too big with the carb. The Q-Jet is your best choice and they can flow up to about 750 when needed. Thing is you don't need it 99% of the time.

I'd say 500 to 600 cfm on that engine. 390 or 450 just seems a little light to me.

Hi Guys!
Let me try and reply to all of yousmile

427 Carl,  I can get a Used 4698 Holley for 150$ + refurbish of $150 = $300. That equates to about R2000 +R145 for the adaptor plate. A new 450 CFM will set me back R3800 i.e. double the refurbished price.

What would a Quatrojet kit + Import Tax and Airmail cost me?

To 68 427 and 73SC;  My local "Dan, Dan The Carburettor Man" (Carburettor Services) also gives me the advice to go with a 600 CFM Holley.  Do you know the CFM of a 4698? is it progressive?  They are normally the economical options.

Dan is the only person that I would allow to refurbish a carb as he is able to set the "flow" to what is needed. He did the Malibu's MonoJet a year ago with no problems to date!biggrin He's price is just as good!aww

Good Morning All!
If you look at the last pic of the 305 engine, there is a vacuum unit that bolts onto the inlet manifold. Can sombody please tel me what it is for?  Also the cost of a kit for the QuatroJet Carburettor.  Knowing now what it is capable of 750 CFM!!!!biggrin It certainly looks like a good proposition to re-furbish it.  If affordable at the same cost as the Re-furbe'd Holley, then I can splurge on a Christmas Gift for the 305!!!aww

427Carl, My apologies, Should have read your posting more closely!  Let me know the cost and posting and I can transfer the money from here to you.

You mean this ?  Its  the EGR valve, or Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve. Puts exhaust back into the intake.  You can take it off and make a cover plate for it.
