I've not had a flu in 5 years, not due to vaccinations but due to diet, regular vitamin regime, etc. In fact I've never had a flu vaccine even though it is and has been offered at work in the 11 years i've had my current employment. But our family is getting this H1N1 vaccine as soon as it's available. I'm not willing to take the risk on my childrens' lives.
Ray! Keep us posted about the players, hoping it's not serious. Figure I'll get the shots when available, the 13 year old goes from having his dad run him a bath to dead in less time than it takes us guys to get dressed in the morning! This is not a cold , I'm not going to take chances.
By game time two more called in sick so eight stayed home. Better safe that sorry. We played with nine players, Goalie, 3 guys played D and 5 played forward. If you can believe it we won 5-0. Incredible game plan by coach, executed to perfection by the players! Highlights will be on CITY TV, just got off phone with Catherine Humphries. Anyway I hoping the boys get well soon and no more come down with it.
Don't put that crap in your body! I am very sad for that 13 year old boy but I think the harm of any drugs are worse. I think that these drugs mess with nature and that some people won't make it and that is sad.
I`ll take a double shot...... Whiskey please! If this thing only hits you when the weather gets cold I wonder if there is none of this in Florida ? Austraila just finished there winter season. Need to check how they made out.
Those of you outside of Southern Ontario will not likely have heard of CFRB Newstalk 1010, in Toronto.
Suffice it to say that on-air host Bill Carroll is a red-meat-eating, hard-nosed, right-wing conservative talk show host who doesn't succumb easily to alarmist messages.
If you can listen to this without a lump in your throat.....good for you. Scroll half way down this page ***http://www.newstalk1010.com/news/565/1011870***to where it says "Listen to Bill Carroll's interview with Evan's dad, Paul Frustaglio".
Imagine yourself in the father's situation.
The high-risk groups include young people.
If you won't get the vaccine for yourself, get it so you won't pass it on to your children, the children of your friends, and those in line with you at the convenience store.
I was just speaking to my mom and she got the shot yesterday. She lives in London, On. and had to wait 3 hrs even with 20 nurses giving the shots! She said she had a three week old grandson so they gave her the shot.

Thanks Bob for posting this. Yes Bill Caroll is even more right of our friends from the West on board, on top of that he is a old pro at broadcasting, very rare indeed to hear the emotion in his voice.
I am with 17 beautiful faces of boys just like Evan at least 4 times a week, same age, Minor Bantam players. I can't tell you how hard this has hit the hockey community in Toronto, and the community at large. As I said we have 8 of them at home today in bed.
I was listening to the Chief Medical Officer of Ontario this morning, I just can't believe all the ridiculous crap and nonsense people are using to justify not getting the vaccine. Oh, it has mercury in it, yes a minute amount to act as a preservative, just like every other vaccine that has ever been administered here, jeezus, a can of tuna has more mercury in it in than the vaccine! All of a sudden, everyone is a medical expert and can voice an opinion on whether it has been sufficiently tested on enough people. How about the 45,000 people it has been tested on so far? Do you expect it to be tested on MILLIONS of people first? How about the fact they have already administered it to millions of people in Europe - are they dropping dead like flys over there?
I was listening to Bill Carroll this morning as well and he stated it perfectly: "you either get the shot, or you are wrong, it's as simple as that".

I've always been totally against the Seasonal Flu shots, preached against them and never had any nor let my kids get them either..
BUT...I'm seriously thinking hard on getting this one as it's a bug we don't have any natural immunities to so a totally different situation than the other shots..

Another thing that bothers me is most workplaces (like ours) has no plan in place if or when we get hit with people being sick here. I deal with the public. I've been bathing in the hand sanitizer as I'm climbing into peoples cars all day touching steering wheels and keys etc.

I'm trying to understand why everyone is so against getting vaccinated. What factual hard evidence (not just mere conjecture) do you have of anyone having been harmed by one of these shots?

Good point Todd, we did a draft policy yesterday, still needs another meeting of the senior executives but we plan to have it issued by week's end. The health and safety committee has done the leg work. Just makes good sense to have a policy in place. I'll see about sharing it once it is approved.
Oh ya I had to laugh at one new buzz word in our draft policy ...."Social Distancing". It means just what it says, avoid being too close to people.

If (and it's still an if) this thing goes rogue, you gotta feel for those on the front lines of retail and the service industry.
Wondering who is bringing it to you can't be good for maintaining a happy workforce. Once again, vaccination is the prudent course to take.
I do not prescribe to the conspiracy theories about big pharmaceuticals and governments planning on massive population culls.............or whatever. Once my head gets to that point, I'll pack some guns, ammo and food stuffs and head into the wilderness of Northern Ontario whistling Davy, Davy Crockett, King of the wild frontier.
Until then, I'll keep washing my hands and working on the inside of my new shop.
Got mine yesterday... i also go for my third Hep A/B soon... i also take malaria pills when i'm vacationing in cambodia... i don't do this to protect the masses! some folks thought polio was a scare tactic once too...
this vacinne may end up being alot like y2k preparations....we'll never know what is saved or didnt...
i will also say that healthy 13 year olds don't drop dead from the seasonal flu ...the country also doesnt have enough intubators to handle a pandemic of this nature...
Hiilar check out the flu shot and Guillan-Barre Syndrome/CIDP.When your that one in whatever(smaller than they are letting on), your whole outlook and life changes.
It would be nice start a study of say 1000 people who had the shot and 1000 people who caught the disease. Whichever group had the least complications, that's the one to go with!
I look at the vaccine like I look at insurance: I may never need it, may never know what hazards I avoided, but for the cost (none to me directly) vs the potential benefit (may save my life), why wouldn't I get it? I read the comments from the father of the 13 year old boy in the Globe & Mail today; the loss he has suffered is shattering. As a parent, I can empathize; and I can tell you I won't be taking any chances with my kids' lives.

Excellent point! Gone to get mine and help my family.
Got mine today (both H1N1 ,and regular) .Had to stand outside in our cold Victoria weather for 3 hours before even getting into the building. They did 150-200 people,(gave out numbers) and sent the other roughly 200 people (who also had been standing in line)home, as they had either run out of time or vaccine.
