I e-mailed him last Sunday. Seems like a decent enough car and I would be interested in buying it myself if i had one or two of my current fleet gone. That's not happening right now and I'm out of car cash and room. Let us know how it turns out Hillar.
Earl, I emailed him a couple of days ago and haven't heard back yet. How long did it take for him to get back to you? Can you PM me his email address from the return email. I just replied to the Kijiji ad, maybe it didn't work?

So I went and saw this car on my way to Haliburton on Sat. As per usual, it looks much better in the pics in the ad. It is your classic 20 footer, or maybe in this case, 30 footer. I give the seller credit, stated up front that he had recently bought it from the little old lady original owner in Milton with the specific purpose of flipping it. The old lady apparently recently lost her licence as she is too old drive and couldn't pass the test now. It is a shame, as you can tell this car was her pride and joy and had been lovingly maintained over the years. It does have a brand new dual exhaust and 4 new Goodyear tires. It also had a complete body and paint I estimate between 5 and 10 years ago. Unfortunately they used a lot of bondo at the the time and now the rust is just starting to bubble and break out everywhere along the mouldings, lips, rockers, etc. Rust is also bubbling underneath the vinyl roof. Seller also did a $5 restoration, says he pressure washed the engine compartment and trunk and then just spray painted everything. He would have been better off just cleaning it and leaving it so people could judge it's true condition, now who knows what has been hidden under all that paint.
Car is not licenced or insured so couldn't take it for a test drive, seemed to run and idle pretty smooth although the right side exhaust was a little puffy, maybe just a plug or a wire. Interior was good except for an 18" x 12" section of the front cushion where the material was completely gone with the foam showing. Seller said old lady's son had put a battery there and all the acid had leaked out. Rear package shelf was completely covered with blankets and mats as well. Trunk had standing water in it, not a good sign. Chrome was good. From what I could see, it was getting crusty underneath. Who knows what one would find if you put it up on the lift or what it might need for certification. Odometer showed 69,xxx, but I have no doubt that is actually 169,xxx.
As I said, the car looks great from a distance and probably would have served the original owner well for many more years as a driver. Generally the paint was in good condition where it wasn't rusty indicating that it probably has not had many miles put on it in the past few years. See the pictures and judge for yourself.
Hmmm, fuzzy dice and baby moons.... never a good sign. Rattle can resto on the frame & under the hood.....never a good sign. Looks like lots 'o bondo coming thru on the quarters. Thanks for the report. I take it you didn't buy it Hillar?

Too bad it ended up in the hands of a flipper. If a CP enthusiast had been able to get it at the price that it appears he did, the car would probably be saved. I think it would be a fun car to play around with at about half his asking price.
As it is, unless he decides to swallow a dose of reality, the car will probably end up being a parts car some day (which isn't entirely a bad thing, but it would be nicer to just keep another one on the road iMHO).
Oh well, maybe he will want to cut his profits before the car returns to the earth... The seller won't likely get more than the car is worth unless he lucks out and finds a naive buyer who won't see the coverups as a warning sign.

All I can say is if he jacks the price, he will have some pretty pissed off people to deal with...

Wow! Now there's some strange logic. Heck, maybe if he jacks up the price and lies to everybody, telling them it's mint he'll get all kinds of potential buyers... yeah right! More like a lynch mob....
Well all I will say is what I always say, the market is always right. If someone pays him $3800 for it, obviously it is worth $3800 to that person, even though I would never pay that much and think like some others on here do that the car is worth roughly 1/2 that amount. We can all debate about how much "work" a flipper puts into a car and what they should be compensated for, again, I couldn't care less if a flipper puts in $1 worth of work or months of searching and negotiating, I am only going to pay what the car is worth to me.
I also don't think that if one keeps a car for ten years that they could ever be categorized as a flipper. To me, a flipper is someone whose intent from day one when they buy the car is to immediately sell it for a profit after putting minimal or no effort into the vehicle, they never have any intent of keeping it for any significant period of time. Again, I am not condoning or condemning flipping, these people are taking a risk that if they get too greedy and overprice, they will end up stuck with something. In this instance, I give the seller credit for admitting up front that was his intent, but I actually don't think it was a very good marketing ploy on his part, as most people will just regard him as nothing more than a scalper. As I stated above, I think his rattle can "restoration" hurts the value of the car more than it helps it. He also admitted that he has never changed the ownership into his name, it is still in the little old lady's name who obviously was convinced to just sign over a blank ownership and UVIP. Who knows what difficulties that may end up causing at the vehicle licencing office. No current licence or insurance also makes it impossible to take the car for a test drive or to your mechanic to check out it's mechanical fitness before you buy. CAVEAT EMPTOR!

too bad the car turned out to be a 30 footer. I was concerned about the amount of new orange and black spray paint under the hood, but that is likely the least of the concerns. From the photo's, the dash looks almost new.
Clint, what do I know, I never saw it but for $1500- $2000 I'd take it and drive it, nothing wrong with a 30 footer imo. Like you say a lot of parts look like new. The real issue here really is the stupid price for what you get.

most everything I look at is a 20 footer-whats another few feet ! this car is $3000 or more though isn't it ? or can it be bought this cheap ?

Hillar says he is thinking of raising the price from $3,900 upwards in an effort to attract more interest.
hmmm, so there was no real interest at 2000 people wanted to pay 1500 ? so he raises it to 3900 and will go higher - interesting.
he never offered it at 2,000, he has always had it priced at 3,800. 2,000 is about the maximum I figure it's worth, I'm guessing he could have got it off the old lady for as little as 1,500. He said he would raise the price if he didn't get more interest figuring that at only 3,800, most people will think it is junk and not worth going out to see it - well, he got that part right anyway...
