Yes, it seems our Casper is back. On Wednesday when I came home from work at 5:30 Connie asked me if I had come home earlier and had left. Apparently when she was in the basement she heard heavy foot steps above her- which sounded like someone had come in the side door, walked into the kitchen and then into the dining room. The footsteps then walked back to the kitchen and towards the side door. She figured I had come home early. A few minutes later she came upstairs and noticed my shoes weren't in the usual place. She checked for me upstairs and then panicked thinking perhaps someone had walked into the house. She checked the side door and it was still locked. She then concluded I must have went on an errand. When I told her I hadn't been home at all she turned white and said "Ok, now I'm freaking out!". I asked if it was one of the cats. "No, they were downstairs with me". I asked if it was her dad "No, he was sitting on the deck and besides, with his walker his footsteps are very small and you can hear the walker being dragged across the floor" So, we have yet another unexplained event. She said these were loud, broad footsteps and sounded like someone with heavy shoes or boots on. We've had some strange events in the past in the area where Connie heard the footsteps. Dogs tend to get very upset in that area, and I swear I've seen a shadow go by the doorway near the side door a couple of times. Our cat will often stop whatever she is doing, stair at that area of the kitchen with her tail all fat and ears swept back in fear.
It's been months since we had any strange events. I wonder if things are ramping up again. I've always said this to Connie "I can handle noises and the odd "shadow". But if I ever see a real ghost the house goes up for sale!"

Todd, I hope you see it one day. The only way to get rid of it is to confront it, find out what is bothering it and tell it to get out of your house once and for all. Usually the spirit is tormented by something in or associated with your place. If you help it confront it's own issues things will probably work out. If you let it scare you into moving, it has won and accomplished it's goal. Oh ya, dogs know.
Take this opportunity Todd to pretend you really can't take it anymore, you want out, and the only place you'll feel safe is one with a 30x60' shop.
Seriously though, these haunting stories you tell about are very entertaining indeed, but I think we're seeing a sense of your familys fear in them. It's easy to speculate what I'd do if the same thing was happening in my house, my first thought would be to approach it from a calm and practical standpoint, be freinds with whatever it is...but that probably would end with the first time I had the hair on the back of my neck stand up!
Keep us informed.

Awesome answer!
Maybe it's the original owner of your Laurentian checking up that you're still taking good car of it (if he's no longer with us, that is...).
In the house I grew up in we had a number of strange occurrances, including strange noises and one time a door knob turned and the door came ajar while my Mom watched it happen - with the rest of the family downstairs, so it wasn't one of us. Freaked us out a little, but for some reason I've always had more of a warm feeling towards them... like they are spirits looking for something that's missing rather than some sort of evil entity. I can't explain it, but that's the way I've always felt.

I agree, My one Rottweiler is inclined to bark at odd times towards the passage and we see nothing. The previous owner's mother died in the one room and I sometimes get the feeling that something is there. NEVER show signs of fear and let your faith carry you.

We've been here 5 years and pretty much know all the sounds the house makes. My neighbor has had some major problems in his house including a candle flying off the mantel and whizzing right by his head. For him it all started when he began tearing down the walls for renovations. The most common event for him is the sound of someone walking up and down the stairs- just about every night. His mother in law stayed over a month or so ago and the next morning she said "Who kept running up and down those stairs last night". He told her about the ghost and he's pretty convinced she wont be back for another visit (way to go eh!).
He said he was planning to carpet the stairs to quiet them down. How can carpet quiet footsteps that aren't there??
In my daughters old house built around 1918, our grandaughter would say she saw a man in the hall way in front of her bedroom now and then. Latter found out the previose owner had hung himself in the hallway in front of her bedroom. Freaky and glad they moved out. That house gave me the creeps.
We have a copy of the ownership transfers from the county office. I've googled some of the names on there with no success. Maybe the ghost follows us? At our last house we had a few strange events- a clock that hadn't run in years suddenly start on it's own (that was a bit scary-it was a cuckoo clock and it started one morning while I was making breakfast. It ran 8 hours until Connie shut it down) and one of my sons toy cars starting up on it's own.
Seriously, have you ever considered having the house checked out by parnormal investigators? If your family is having these experiences, maybe they could help shed some light on what is going on.
if they do start rebuilding the dodge for you like christine then im bringing the 59 over!! We have had a few things here too like the door to the attic all of a sudden is open and once in awhile i feel like im being watched and i see somebody from the corner of my eye, especially in the basement. And also the dog will not go in the basement, but if im down there he will come to the landing and crouch down and look and start barking. I hope the spirits come out tonight for the party!!
When I was fixing up the basement in our first house I had some weird things happen to my hammer that my late father had given me( it fell over twice !). Found out that one of the previous owners had fallen down the stairs and died in that area and he wasn't found for a couple of days ! BELIEVE IT OR NOT !!!!
We've had investigators out (make sure you choose those who do it for free!). They say there is more than one spirit (including one that likes to visit two other houses on our street). They were pretty much dead on as to picking out the "hot spots" in our house. Apparently a tall fellow with a beard wanders the kitchen from the side door to the dining room. Makes sense as I swear I've seen a tall shadow wall by the doorway to our kitchen. This is also where Connie heard the footsteps last week. We have a "residual" of a lady upstairs being very busy-walking from one room to the other. Her walking patterns are different from our floor layout (makes sense as our upstairs had 4 bedrooms back in the day- since then the walls were tore down and a second washroom was added and we have 3 bedrooms)
