Here's one for ya!!! I'm going to look at a 52 Pontiac, he says it's a Chiefton, is this a Canadian Poncho or American??? I'm not "up" on early 50's Pontiac models!!! I'll check the plate when I get to see it, but would like to know ahead of time. No power train in it, but seller "thinks" it was a six, but US models had both six & eights, & he doesn't know if it's a US or "Canuk" model, Thanks Pete

Ray, thanks, tail lights in your pics are different than the one I'm going to see, yours are definetly the US if my memory is correct. The pics. the seller sent has tails lights the same as 52 "CHEBBY" so this leads me to think it is a Canuk one!!! I really don't care which one it is [it's a PONCHO] but would be nice to know ahead of time so I'll know what I'm looking at & parts availability & interchange??? Thanks Pete

continued to use the modified Chevrolet bodies with Pontiac badging. For example, 1950-51-52 Fleetleader Deluxe (Canadian Pontiac) looks like a Pontiac but one could identify the Chevrolet in them with the Chevy rear fenders, taillights, etc.
Believe the Chieftain was the American model. There was a Chieftain and Chieftain Deluxe. The model numbers are as follows 2567DTX = convertible coupe deluxe 2537D = Catalina coupe deluxe 2537SD = Catalina coupe super deluxe 2511 = 2dr sedan 2511D = 2dr sedan deluxe 2569 = 4dr sedan 2569D = 4dr sedan deluxe 2562 = stationwagon 2562D = stationwagon deluxe 2571 = sedan delivery.
First digit of VIN indicates the assembly plant A = Atlanta, GA C = South Gate, CA F = Framingham, MA K = Kansas City, KS L = Linden, NJ P = Pontiac, MI W = Wilmington, DE Second digit indicates engine 6 = 6 cyl 8 = 8 cyl Third digit indicates model year ( W = 1952 ) fourth digit indicates transmission type H = hydramatic S = Syncro-mesh
Also have the paint codes and trim codes and breakout of engine specs once you're able to supply the VIN
Yo Carl, Yep thems the tail lights alright. So maybe this "ain't" a Chieftain unless the Canadian ones had that model name as well?? I'm just going by what the seller said it was, will find out on Thurs, if everything "clicks" for getting together to see it & "maybe" load it on the trailer, must remember to take the camera as well as trailer!!!

Ted, thanks for info, will copy that & take it with me, I really think the seller is wrong on calling it a Chieftain, re Carl's pics. to Ray's!!! this car has the Chevy tail lamps must be Canadian. Just checked your BIO you & I aren"t that far off on B/days, I'm older by a few mths. Pete

my book only goes up to 51 but it does list a chieftain six and eight for 51 for canuk versions
That's why I put up the picture of the dealer name plate from Woodstock Ontario. I was sure they were offered in Canada in 51. If you look at the pic I posted the grille looks more like the 49 from the manual though.
