RE: Going to Gimli!

Actually the whole thing felt like an expedition to the moon, where everything has to go just right, you land, meet some friendly moon people, pick up some moon rocks and then blast off back to earth. From your point of view it was probably a close encounter of the weird kind!

No, no, I said for any who didn't believe that it would work, here is proof.

I felt we had that wheel on there pretty tight for what we had to work with, (meaning one original stud).... Not a lot of weight on there, and as you say, the rim centre is nice and tight on the axle snout.

People often question the loyality of one car guy to another .....

Pretty clear I wasn't going to retire on what i sold the car for , I just wanted to it to go to a good home . I am pretty sure it has , after all who the hell would come all this way if they didn't care .

To put the level of trust into perspective . look at it this way ...

Iam looking for 2 people that want to do a reality TV show about hooking up a 43 year old car that hasn't moved for 15 years up to a questionable trailering device send two people twice across 3 provinces with 1 lug nut , three bolts and a prayer and enough junk food to kill a person with out the proper training ... and to round it off charge them to participate in the show and perhapse advise them that if they are succesful in their journey it will lead to .......
spending more money ... LOL Warren

Great story hope you have a blast Ken , Carl great to meet you ,you'll have to come back in the summet for the car show, may be I'll let you drive the GP...only if you promise not to to drool on the dash , when you wake the old injun up....
Take care

And now.... the big reveal!  I had George Z checkout the possibility that this car had AC as a factory install.

It had a 327 with power steering and brakes, but NO AC.

Oh well, parts are still good!

By the way I did find out something  for the production numbers post.....

Makes sense. Remember we had the discussion that it had that 3/8 fuel line from the tank? It had to be at least a 327 to have that.

Interesting though. 327, 4 rear control arms and yet a 10 bolt. I've had a 283 66 with a 12 bolt. go figure...

Hi Carl, the only thing I can figure is that since this car was delivered to a Vancouver area  dealership (according to the documentation) the factory figured that since all the B.C. guys are so laid back that they would't ever try to smoke their tires, they would just install a ten bolt.

Hey its a theory!

It would be great to find someone who worked at Oshawa in the 60's and sit them down for an interview about all this stuff.  For those who aren't members of POCI, the last 4 issues of Smoke Signals have featured articles with guys who worked at the Pontiac plants in the 60's.  It is just fascinating reading!

I would love that.  We should talk to these guys while they're still around.  Somebody on this forum from Ontario must know or be related to an Oshawa worker from that period.  If they knew how much we would hang on every word about how our precious babies were actually put together, they could charge admission!

Hey Ken!!! Been meaning to post a comment on your trip as well but I have been going full bore here but finally I get a chance to respond........ I know what you mean by big country for sure!!! But glad all went well and that you and the wife made 'er back safe and sound.
The car is still where we dropped it but I will move the both of them here shortly. I too will send the vin to GZ to see what she did have for a mill and maybe that 427ci was original???
Other than that, glad you made a quick visit to look at my mess as well and hopefully we will do it again soon! I will have to make another trip to visit your local junk yard for a couple of days rest from work .....!!

Hey Vince glad to hear from you, thought you might have dropped from the flu.  I hope you didn't mind me building up your yard as some kind of Mecca for 67 lovers but it pretty well is.

Come back anytime.  I'll see what I can dig up in the meantime (or maybe even accomplish in the way of progress on a project.

I'm pretty sure it's a 66, but I agree that is a really neat idea!

I'd be interested in the door glass but I don't know how we'll get it to LLB without breaking it or using UPS (who I really hate.)

FEDEX ships & insures glass - and it's cheaper than the rest. I bought several pieces from Howmac a few weeks ago, shipped thru fedex. No problems.
