Wow, talk about shooting yourself in the foot, I admire the Legion and all it stands for, but man they have got to lighten up real soon real fast.  Their membership is down and they are always looking for new blood.  This could be one of the many reasons why its not happening!  My Grand Father and my Dad never joined the Legion and a lot of their reasons were that, some how the real meaning of things near and dear to us old Vets were missing or seemed to get lost in the BS, if you follow my meaning.  Again no disrepect to the Legion, just their antiquated ways.  My two decals are on the back of my car and company truck along with my regiment colours.  God have mercy on the fool who dares to remove.

I was really sorry to read this post.   I understand as someone else mentioned earlier that the Canadian Legion is defending their trademark on the poppy.  Its their sole means of support for the veterans who survived.  Its also a way, each November, for those of us alive, to honour those who gave the ultimate sacrifice so we can live free.

I spent my lunch hour today going to one of our local legions and made a "large" donation as a way to honour my father, a WWII veteran.  My father past on Halloween day 2007.  I was motivated as the press has been stating that donations were way down from previous years.   I wanted to make up for others who may not have been able to give this year.

Its unfortunate the Legion feels its had to take these steps you folks have mentioned in this thread.   Let's hope there's a way to resolve this issue to the benefit of all.

Proud to be the son of a RCN veteran of WWII .  For what my father, and men and women like him, stood for.   Same goes for our military personnel wherever they are stationed.   They are the best of our nation and should be revered.

Thanks to all the verterans on this site, we shall never forget the service you gave to our country.

I have one of the type confiscated, Carl, but I'm not parting with it. wink

I wear it every day.

Paul Hallas, Chief Executive Officer of Ganaraska Credit Union that has branches in Cobourg and Port Hope, holds up a Highway of Heroes pin the branch was distributing, until the Royal Canadian Legion sent a letter demanding the company cease all display and distribution of any merchandise, including lapel pins, bearing the image of a poppy, the term poppy or a variation thereof. All proceeds raised to date from donations totalling over $8,000 were sent to the Military Families Fund.
