MC - I really enjoyed your post and i can relate to your situation because my circumstances used to be similar. So for an $2ooooo you can have my fully equipped shop 40x60 on 80 acres and i will throw the wagon in free. I may need a job so i will also include my resume for this price.Homes are readily available nearby for approx 70000. Sometimes change is good.

Wow where abouts are you?  Haven't heard of prices like that for a long time.  I'll bet there aren't many renters around there when you can buy for that.  A guy would only have to work a little then too.

Interesting my cousin and her husband sold their construction business, home, and almost everything south of Edmonton about a year and a half ago and bought a couple properties near the ocean near you.  Sounds like they couldn't be happier.  Same thing he works a whole lot less now and has alot more time to himself.

I know we don't have resort weather, but that is how rural Saskatchewan used to be. Prices have been slowly creeping up to the Edmonton #'s but have recently declined due the slow down.
Grew up in surrey bc moved to rural sk as I entered my teens, I've thanked my parents, I know my rural upbringing had a huge impact on my adult destiny, if you well. Something to be said for a simpler life!!

My brother is still on the coast, he still can't understand how I
can have the house ,shop , and cars , go for a visit to the coast every year?
Easy , house was 100g, not 650 g

You're right, you have to wonder who is the smart one and probably who has more stress.  You might drive a few more miles but at least when you drive you drive and you don't get plugged up in traffic like the coast.  It's much the same here too, I wouldn't want to buy a place here but when I bought my first house it was only 35 g and I have built myself 3 houses since to be able to stay here but my son who is 22 would love to have an acreage with a shop and some equipment.  3 to 4 hundred thou for an acreage with no buildings a half hour out of town is about the best you can find.  Sort of tough for a kid.  At least he's ambitous and he's got a rental house that he's had for 3 years that we helped out on the down payment and it's gone up about 50 grand so he's gaining some equity and some good experience.  I probably shoudn't be filling up this thread with this but I find your rural life interesting.  I grew up on  a farm just south of Edmonton.

I lived over 25 years in Toronto (so did my wife).
My wife and I decided to move to PEI (she's an Islander), and it's the best move we ever made. It's a beautiful island, and my quality of life is a hundred times better. I live on the north shore 5 minutes walking distance from the ocean (Gulf Of St. Lawrence) in a fishing village ... it has such a calming effect. The weather is sometimes a hinderance (Winter), but it's generally nice.
A lot houses here are cheaper than most provinces, and you actually get land with the house.
Come visit The Gentle Island! : )

Hey, thanks for the offer. Sounds very tempting, but it wouldn't work for me.

Good luck with selling the wagon.

Close ... French River. Do you know PEI well?
Yep, frequent pink and purple sunsets. The light gets dim ... at a certain intensity near dusk, and the red soil, green grass, and blue sky gets even more pronounced in colour (my wife pointed it out to me). Beautiful!
