RE: Toyota's going out of control?

Spoke w/ my Dad last night and asked what's the word from Toyota about his '10 Corolla..
He told me they've called from a Toyo info ctr. telling him the dealer will call..
The dealer did call and booked his car the next day for an inspection..
He went and all was very professional, they checked the car and told him they'd contact him again when they knew more or any parts his car req'd came in..
He thinks the whole situation's been very smoothly dealt with!.

And DQ Pete..
What years were you SM at Whitby Toyota?.
I was SM at the Whitby M-Benz/Mazda/Volvo dealer in the late 80's/early 90's..
Gus owned it then and treated me like gold!.

Ken that's going to be a long wait. The little car is too small for a growing family. It's been serving it's purpose as utility transport, that's all it is. Nothing classic about it, drive it into the ground however long that might be. Hopefully not too soon, can't afford to make the switch over to a bigger vehicle.

An 03 Camry has the old style of throttle with a cable from the pedal to the throttle body. If your throttle is sticking it's likely due to a dirty throttle body.

Exactly! I've witnessed first hand what can happen when a wingnut hits the gas pedal instead of the brake. It damn near cost me, Connie and my son our lives!

Aren't 90% of the recalls out there "forced" by the gov't?

Stop driving recalled Toyotas, U.S. transport secretary

Last Updated: Wednesday, February 3, 2010 | 12:33 PM ET Comments66Recommend23

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says Toyota was slow to deal with safety problems with its gas pedals.U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says Toyota was slow to deal with safety problems with its gas pedals. (Cliff Owen/Associated Press)U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is telling owners of recalled Toyota cars to stop driving them and get them fixed.

LaHood's warning came Wednesday in testimony before a House appropriations subcommittee on transportation.

"Stop driving it," LaHood advised car owners. "Take it to a Toyota dealer because they believe they have a fix for it."

Toyota's most recent recall in the United States affects 2.3 million vehicles with gas pedals that have the potential to stick. The recall applies to roughly 270,000 vehicles in Canada and 4.2 million vehicles worldwide.

LaHood told reporters earlier in the day that Toyota owners should contact their dealer immediately and "exercise caution until repairs can be made."

On Tuesday, LaHood criticized Toyota for being too slow in addressing the safety issues around gas pedals.

He credited his own department for forcing Toyota to deal with the problem. The company only reacted after U.S. transportation officials travelled to Japan for face-to-face talks to "wake them up" to the seriousness of the sticky pedals, LaHood said.

Toyota Canada said Monday it will install a steel reinforcement bar to fix the sticky gas pedals. The announcement came the same day disgruntled Toyota owners in Canada launched multiple class-action lawsuits against the embattled auto manufacturer.

Yes they are. I will give Toyota credit for being more open about it than GM ever was about premature rust out on frames of 80's mid-size, Fiero's catching on fire, crappy intakes on 3800's, head gaskets on NorthStars, and a few more that I can't remember right now.....no

I wish I had a Tacoma with a rusty frame- 10 years old, 280000kms and Toyota gives you 16 grand for it!

We are expecting a crate of pedal repair kits tomorrow. I'm glad my pay plan includes warranty repairs!

:)

We have seen a couple of rusty frames out here on the west coast, Yup Toyota gives them lots for it. We haven't seen any pedal kits yet but soon. Not time listed for repair yet either. We had an old pedal apart today and were seeing what it involved, doesn't look that bad so it won't pay much probably. The inspection we are doing now pays well for what u have to do.

The guys from Toyota Canada were out yesterday. We had techs from area dealers out to be trained on the mods. I suspect we'll have labour times tomorrow. One Toyota rep said on a typical Camry getting the pedal mod, the voluntary ECU update, pedal "shave" and carpet mod, it could take up to 3hrs! There's talk about running a night shift. Our "sister" dealer in Richmond Hill is going to open Sundays. Looks like now would be a good time to book some vacation time biggrin

One guy came in with a new Camry today to have the pedal checked. I open the door and find a huge aftermarket rubber floor mat on top of the factory mats. I started my "speech" about how it's not wise to have that big fat mat on top of the factory floor mat. He interrupted me in mid sentence and said "I know you have a job to do but don't worry about it".
Okee dokee smokee...disbelief

Just punch a couple of big holes in his floor mat and put some of those huge plastic ties on it keep it away the pedals, LOL.
One of our Techs did the same course today, shaving the pedals and the rest. They also want us to work late, but not sure if they want us to come in late or just stay late. Gonna be some confusing so a while, all this while we are in the middle of a major reno, only have 1/8 of our customer parking and with sales parking. Getting a new building beside the old one.

They want to inspect for rust and if it needs to be replaced. I have to say at least they are comming forward and trying to make things right. Just my 2cnts.
I have addd my recall letter.

Now we have customers who aren't happy with the "feel" of the pedal after the modification. The apparent problem in the pedal is the area that "simulates" the feeling of being attached to a cable. When you insert the shim, the friction is reduced and if you are really "sensitive" you'll notice the pedal presses a little easier. Not sure how we are going to please those who aren't happy with them. Remember the good old days of throttle cables? If you didn't like the pedal feel you changed the return spring on the carb!

I think Toyota has had a going over in the Quality control dept in the last couple of weeks, cuz we have had 4 campaign postings, Pedal campiagn, camry P/s hose problem( only like 400 vehicles involved) Prius brake controller reprogram, and some others I can't think of right now. Oh ya Tacoma front Driveshaft issue, limited amount as well.
