Well I thought I had it all taken care of, went to the platics shop and got 3M spray contact cement and a dash cleaner to remove all residue. I picked up a bunch of various sized clamps. I fitted the dashpad 4 times with the clamps on and it fitting tight. I put the glovebox and lid and ashtray, guagepot , heater controls to check my clearances, it all looked not bad, not perfect but close with a little triming I figure I had it licked. Sprayed the 3m on the dash first and then the cap second, I then fitted the cap on the dash and started at drivers side and worked my way across the dash. I clamped everthing down and left it for an hour to dry. I had a quick coffee and went to see how it was doing and just about cried the dashcap had pulled back about a 1/4 " along along the top whre it meets the windheild and around where the guages come thru. I was so pissed I went back in the house to cool off, another Coffee I just went back out and took a few pictures sodown the line I can laugh about this. I am lucky that I have another dash from my parts car so I think I will have to save up and send it to just dashes in California and Have it done right the first time. I am definitley not going to try a dashcap again, I guess its the old story eh !! Ya get what ya payed for !!! Well its time to get reay for work and make some money to fix my mistake. Sorry to hear about your experience with the dash cap. We've all had similar situations when working on our cars. Think of it as a good learning experience and move on and rest happy in knowing you've probably saved a lot of people grief by telling us about it!
That sucks !!! Push away from it for today. Is there a stronger adhesive you could use for those areas ? How about that stuff they use for emblems or that adhesive for pannel repairs ? Was thinking about getting a cap for mine but now , not so sure.
I would say the 3m adhesive caused the plastic cap to distort I had the same problem with a chev cap a number of years ago, I contacted the manufacturer and they recommended a different product it was something a little less volitile cant exactly remember what though and they also sent me a new cap to boot might be worth a call

I had some dash and interior issues on my 69 , cracking etc. I found a guy, Shane is his name. He has a small portable repair shop on wheels. Fibrenew industries, it is a chain of repair outlets. Although he is in Burford On.( tel 519 9881) he may know of someone out west to help you. Talk to someone at a reputable upolstery shop, this is what they do. Shane did miracles with my vinyl dash and door panels......... Tony

Sorry to hear of your dash problem! I "felt" the same when my driveshaft didn't fit, after doing all the 4 speed install . The 2nd time was faster! We don't need all this experience!!
I agree with Tony. The Fibrenew guys are good. They do new car dealer repairs as well as warranty repairs for large furniture stores (Brick, Leons etc). Blair, the guy who runs the London location is fantastic. He repaired a large split in the seat back of the 69 Catalina I owned. You had to look really hard to see the repair.
Thanks for sharing all your tribulations! Saves me going through it all! My dash needs the same type of work and it needs to be sprayed black. The original dash is lying in the trash can! received it in two pieces! Pardon my private den/refuge!
Just thinking! A thin layer of adhesive silicon sealer should work well! Time to dry out and no reaction with any material and sticks like baby goo to a blanket when dry!
