OEM vs. jobber parts.

I have going to, ask Carl about GM parts for a while, and his/your post on the fan motor reminded me..
My friend Andrew, works on GM/Ford/Dodge Diesel pickups. ( lots of them pulling cattle and such on the farms)   He noticed, and remarked to me, that GM Diesel 2500 etc. 4x4 wheel bearings are over $100.00 cheaper and Ford and Dodge 4x4 3/4 ton universals and rotors and u-joints are cheaper at the dealerships!! Is this a new development with GM regarding pricing??

I took 07 Suburban, to LARGE GM dual Chev/GMC dealership (Exeter)(Dealership is a drive in service, candy in the bowl, hi end store)     for 10:30 appointment to check out hatch not opening... They took it in at 10:33, and 20 minutes later, said the handle switch was no good, and they did not have one in stockno  AND they asked if I wanted them, to leave hatch cover off, so I could install switch myself??? Wow!   I paid 39.00 and left !!!  Picked up switch today  (though it would be 150-200)  26.00 bucks   Wow   I was impressed!!!!

Always, always check with the dealer for pricing. You will be amazed how often GM is cheaper.

We had a wheel bearing the other day. I think it was a Cobalt. Over $100 cheaper on a $250 (approx) part.

Delco pads, rotors, shocks etc have tremendous pricing. I have no problem competing and even beating jobber prices on a lot of stuff.

Its also amazing how 2 guys in my office wanted new tires for their SUVs and went to specific tire stores and one even priced it out on tirerack.com ...i told them i'd ask my brother who works at a dealership... he beat their prices by $300!! and that wasn't even his 'good price'...

the tire shops are gouging at full MSRP on pricing... thats the price you use if you are pro-rating for warranty...not for buying customers!!...even enemies should get a better price!!hahaha!! they never expected a dealer to beat the specialty tire shops...

We sell a PILE of tires at work so we must be competitive. I think the only real competitor we have is Costco and we usually fix their broken pressure sensors, bad balancing etc.

just bought wires, cap & rotor for my 95 Sonnoma 4x4. My cost was $190 out the door. Jobber price was only a little less so I stuck with GM parts.

Not that I'm the biggest fan of GM these days but I still think we should spread the word. They have made an effort to be competitive in the jobber parts market and I like to support them to show my appreciation for that.

I buy my tires on Kijij, you'd be amazed how much you can save on 1 year old winter tires for example.

Boy, I'm surprised to hear you have trouble with Delco. We have sold tons of the Delco brake parts through our dealership and I can't think of one bad part so far.

We have tried brake drums from our local jobber store.  If I am ordering jobber rear brake drums for a 95 and up Cavalier, the service department makes me order 4 per job because we are guaranteed that only half of them will be round enough to actually use. I'm not kidding, at least 50% of the jobber drums for Cavalier are too out of round to use.

I tried to run delco brake parts on the bus because I have had great luck in the past but not in the last 2 or 3 months.

There is a pretty much full line of Delco chassis and brake parts for your stuff Ken. I think you mean more than that but if you need brakes, shocks, steering stuff for a 60's GM product, give GM a shot. Better yet, send me a PM Ken if you are up to that point.

I sure cannot complain about the Delco shocks I bought off Carl this summer for my 03 2500HD Duramax. Ride improved and the price was much better than the last set of Monroes. They only made it about 60,000km and all four had a dead zone.....not very impressive at all.

Sadly, no. Delco, NAPA and Autovalue all list them 71 or newer and we know that is the wrong one.

I've read that somewhere before but forgot about it. I think it must have been on one of the other forums I "used" to go to.
