That's gotta be the funniest. I am so glad that we have the Bill of Rights and we are all taken care of. Great find Bob.

Bob's joke is priceless. I think we can all get a chuckle out of it.

This past year we hired two new employees who happen to be of the Jewish faith. I am responsible for the facilty as part of my duties. We always erect an 8 foot Christmas tree in our Lobby and light the spruce tree on the front lawn.

This year I decided that I had better get a Menorah as well and place it in the lobby with the Christmas Tree.  Today is the first night of Hanukkah.

I have to tell you that our employees of the Jewish faith were deeply touched and appreciative.

Monday we are having a Board/Staff dinner and on the agenda appeared grace. Well it has been pointed out that there is no grace in the Jewish faith so we are going to change that and have some words of thanks. We also have two Board members of the Jewish faith.

These two young women we hired are absolutely beautiful and high contributing employees. It didn't hurt us one bit to make them feel included in our company family and I have to tell you it actually felt good doing it.

ROFL, that is good!

Ray, as long as we don't compromise our beliefs to please others, why not go the extra mile to make them feel welcome.

We have a local church here that is similar to what most people think of as Mennonites. The married men are bearded, no neckties with their suits, women wear head coverings and only dresses (no jeans), no jewelery, no radio, no TV, no musical instruments etc. If I attend a function at their church, I don't wear a tie out of respect for their belief. If they come to our church, (they are only allowed to come to our church for funerals) I may be wearing a tie, my wife may be playing the organ and so on. I will not try to force on them what I think is right, I expect them to be/do the same.

If I understand it right, you are saying that you will not have a table grace. I would not be willing to give up giving thanks to God before my meal regardless of who I am in the presence of. I say that to you respectfully Ray.

In my untheological opinion God doesn't care what you look like, how you dress, where you worship, or who you worship with, He cares about what you are.

I agree with Carl, I wouldn't give up my Grace, once you do that the 1st. yr. it's gone forever!!!  You can only go so far in making people "feel" comfortable at occassions like this, the difference in religions will never let either side feel totally at ease, so do what you can, but give up TOO MUCH as you'll never get it back,  MERRY CHRISTMAS

This is what thought I would say prior to the meal, it's really an invocation. I test drove it with those involved and they are Kosher with it!

Creator and sustainer of all that is or will ever be, accept our thanks for this day and all its blessings. We ask that you guide and direct us, our leaders and our actions. Grant that each of us may feel our responsibility to one another, to our community, to our country, and indeed to all countries and peoples we serve. Bless our fellowship today, and bless this food to the nourishment of our bodies, in your service. Amen.

Thanks Carl, it's pretty much what we would say anyway just no reference to Christmas or Christ but I can live with it.

It feels like this thread, somehow, got bent up in Ray's "People give up on religion" thread. I think we took that last turn on two wheels.

Meanwhile, I got a big laugh out of the HR Manager's memos. I first heard the story read by Charles Adler on his radio show this week. He read it perfectly.

Ya the story is funny Bob. Probably not a good idea to discuss religion and race. I have to be honest, I got pretty much what I intended when I made that post. wink

Uh, doesn't it say someplace in the good book that we're not suppose to hide his name ?

Anyway I wanna disagree or agree depending where this thread starts-

I'm not against people practising what they believe-but its Christmas ! when I was a kid I really didn't like seeing Xmas signs instead of Christmas-now I listen to my son's Christmas specials on TV and low and behold they are Holiday specials-not to offend anyone- I don't hang ornaments on their holidays so they shouldn't hangm' on mine.
