RE: 65 Parisienne convertible for sale - need input fast!

If I was in the market for a car like this I would have gone last weekend and had a look. But in this economy it is tough selling vintage iron. It's a car no one really needs, but lots of us wouldn't mind having. I have tried to sell a few of my fleet this year and it's hard even getting anyone to show up no matter how low you price them.

yes, as I said very typical of today's market-even if you price a smokin' deal nobody comes

I was sort of thinking that too-with the address and times available-maybe just trying to send people to someone house ? anyone reverse the phone number to see if it matches the address ?

Yes, the phone number comes up as 192 Green Rd Stoney Creek

Well, he's saying come to Green Rd. A decent area.

132 Gailmont, if not a house, could be a little sketchy though.

Send help if I'm not on by tomorrow night!blankstare

His name is Howard, seems like a straight shooter. Look forward to the feedback on the car!

Don't want to get too far off topic, but is the '67 SD 396 that sat in a junkyard in NS for years?

Car was purchased at J.E. Weldon Pontiac-Buick in Sackville N.B. (my hometown)  and was light yellow and was owned by John Henderson (local druggest)   He hit a young child with it, and it was repainted dark green...  That was in 69..   Car was kept track of, by my friend Peter... Car is totally rotten, but has original driveline in it...  The lady(wacko) is going to fix it "someday"    you know....

Ok, I've had a look.

Under the hood, it looks really good. The firewall seam has had some work, but looking down at the frame, and w/wells, the front end looks very good. No visible rust or scabs. It had me a pretty encouraged! It starts and runs nice, has a newer 350 with a 2 speed. relatively new Duals with mufflers crudely positioned but nice exits. The car has a Nov 09 sticker, and he says he drove it up until last month.
The top looks a little tired but it works, he raised it. Glass backlight. The interior needs a resto, but it appears all there, aftermarket cut in stereo, but he has a spare uncut dash bezel, drivers bucket and console parts.
The car has all its body trim in what appears to be good shape, the big rocker trim shows some screws. Glass is good. The bumpers are very nice. The rear facia is pitted. It has the too common tin and thick cheese rear wheelwell openings, with bubbling starting. I think it was a skirt car (no ww trim on rear), but didn't see any. He might have them? Plastic hubcaps? Didn't think to ask about the originals. Nice bright resale red paint a few years old with some issues. Doors seem solid. I think the odo reads 69K, claimed original.

Needs a trunk pan, has numerous cheap patches in place with tar and whatever. Rivets showing. A nice line of rust opening up on the pan just beneath the trunk latch reciever. Trunk full of stuff (to disguise the tin?) The drivers rear floor pan is rotten, the fronts I couldn't really see, but I can imagine there's likely problems in every pan. I could look down the firewall to the toeboard, and it looked ok there, the forward mounts are clean. The rocker below the quarter had the ususal tin wraparound bodyjob. And for the final observation...the frame. Although probably roadworthy, it has had a massive repair job done on it at one time. The siderails are box welded using heavy plate sides and bottom. Obviously a old repair. Couldn't get under to see the torque boxes, one need only to use their imagination there. The frame towards the far end actually looks decent. Has a old hitch. Gas tank looks fine, undented.

Imop, with someone willing to body off the thing, provide a new frame and repair the trunk, floors and quarters, it could eventually become a very nice car again. Of course it probably could be driven as is, but it obviously needs more than anything near a cosmetic restoration.  It's just too bad about that frame, and I can't seeing it be in the fives without the frame. The seller seemed a decent guy to deal with. He says there's room to work here.

In any event, it's always fun to go take a look at any big CP! Glad to help.

Cheers, Mark

When I saw it in the late '80s it was sitting at the front of the yard near an old building by the main highway, looking not too much different than it does there.  It was too far gone to fix way back then... now it would be no more than garage art at best IMHO.  What a shame.

I have some pics somewhere that I took back then.  If I can find them I'll scan and post them in the Beaumont section one of these days.

Sorry about the thread hijack!

Wow Mark! What a review! You're hired!
Your review has made up my mind it's not the 'survivor' car I am looking for. You WILL get what you pay for. I am looking for more of a 'cosmetic restoration' as you mentioned.
Once again this forum proves to be the best resource for CP's anywhere. Thx everyone!
Rick

Great that you went to see it-the mystery is solved ! seems to be an OK ragtop for the money though.

I did look at one of these in St. Catharines last year-real good western car with amatuer older paint needing interior sprucing up-he thought he sell at 10-would be worth the difference

Good to get an honest description. I wouldn't take it on, but I'm sure someone will.

It's a cheap driver, but that's it. I figured it would look like that. Any more money spent on that car other than to keep it running will never be returned. When they have frame issues it's better to move on to another one. Trust me on this. I speak from waaaay too much experience at  buying a perfumed pig. Thanks so much for the appraisal Mark!

I enjoyed it!
And I agree... the poor frame kills it.

So the Custom Sport had it's own model designation...interesting.

Thanks, Fred.

Right!

76 6 67 is the 65 V8 Custom Sport Ragtop
76 4 67 is the 65 V8  Parisiennne  Ragtop

I'm assuming the buckets and console were Custom Sport only?

What else did the Custom Sport include that differed from the Parisienne?

Buckets and console, grill, stainless full rocker moulding ,spinner full wheel covers, badging.
Not sure but I think 2 tone steering wheel?

looks to be a Parisienne with Custom Sport badges

They are in the wrong place also. Shouldn't they be behind the front wheel arch?

4190899236_724b2ac27a_m.jpg

Noticed the grille and side emblems.
Also it has a clock in the dash where the custom sport has a manifold vacuum guage.
