my visit to Texas

We took a week off and flew into Houston on Saturday.  When we booked the trip, we checked to see about catching an NFL game, and chose to see San Diego @ Dallas in the new Cowboys Stadium.   WOW, what a place.  I think they're trying to pay off the stadium with the profit at the consession stands, $8 for a beer, $6 for a pop, $5.50 for popcorn.

This morning we checked out the "6th Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza" in Dallas - Very cool.  You can walk around the plaza and see where Abraham Zapruder stood to film the Kennedy assasination, and there's two X's on the pavement showing where Kennedy got hit.  The 6th floor museum is very well done, and you can stand about 10' away from where Oswald fired the fatal shots.

Now in Austin, touring the capital building tomorrow, then down to San Antonio, and you guessed it, hoping to catch a couple auto salvage yards while we're here.

Hey, I've got a 283 Nova-only bare block sitting in Houston, all paid for and everything. Think you can fit that in your suitcase on your trip back???

visited the Texas State Capital in Austin this morning, then hit "John's Salvage" near Seguin TX (east of San Antonio) this afternoon.  Old style salvage yard with cars piled 3 high.  Lots of cars, but didn't see anything I needed.   Lets see what tomorrow brings.   - and no, I don't think I can fit a bare block into my suitcase, but I've carried most other car parts in there.

Should be a great place for carspotting given the climate; having said that, the last time I was in Houston I did not see a single old car on the road.

cool day here in San Antonio - only 48F.  Did visit Reuben at "Where D Old Cars R" east of San Antonio in La Vernia.  Good guy, has a number of parts cars but they're pretty picked over.  Also has some cars for sale that need restoring.

Off to Houston tomorrow.

Sounds like a great trip.  Send us some pics of the salvage yards down there.

BTW, those prices at Cowboys stadium are the same or LESS than what we pay at the Air Canada Centre. evileye

I know you were looking for Pontiacs; did you happen to see any 63-64 Catalina or Grand Prix shells?

I'm sure I saw a 63 or 64 Grand Prix in John's Salvage, and I think I saw a 63 Full size there as well.     I didn't bring a camera, so everything is by memory.   Here's their website:    http://johnssalvagecompany.com
