my 68 SD

after some scrubbing , this is where I'll be starting froom this time, the ol RM enamel paint held up pretty well, considering....

currerently sporting a SBC 350 and T350, 10 bolt unknown gear.

I've collected all the right goodies to make it appear original, it will be a non #'s car,  but non the less, still an SD.  I have documented the car with George Z.68sdnewsd.jpg68right.jpg68back.jpg

attached the GM docs....

of my Pontiac Beaumont

what gear was standard on these? I see nothing here about a gear ratio? Posi would have been an option I guess, just like disc brakes.

the pics are when I started on it in 1988, remember spot putty !!!! and lacquer primer. We sprayed it in a buddies garage in RM acrylic enamel using fine line tape for the stripes. NO base clear for the poor boy at that time !!

I sold it in 1989 ?? too many cars at that time, the orange 57 would go in 1991 to pay my way into tech school .

I am guessing it will be a 2.73 no posi from new.

My 69 specs show 3.31 ratio as the standard ratio for the 325 hp 396 auto.  then there is 3.07 for economy then 3.73 for the performance then 2.73 as special. Maybe 68 is the same ?

seems to me it was a 2.73 posi?? 12 bolt when I got it. the diff. was not in the car at the time, but came with the deal.

Never really paid attention to gears when I was 18, just part of the car at that time.

I put a 'built ' 327 in it when I first got the SD, the original drivetrain was long gone. That 'built' 327 didn't last long, and it had 2 broken skirts. "never let your girlfriends 16 year old little brother borrow the car " I had let him borrow it to put some easy miles on the fresh engine before I started thrashing it, never got to the thrashing part....lesson learned !!
