No Blackberry Service

Holly cow, got my last message at 7:36 last night, They say we could be days without service all over North America and Asia. Just when we need it most over the holidays!

I'm already starting to shake.........biggrin

YOU ACTUALLY CARRY IT WITH YOU?   I have a cell phone, that I leave in van for emergencies...   If I had to be "in contact", all the time, I would shoot myself...no

Carl it is sad but true, I got three telephone calls this morning because "they" were panicing that I wasn't answering emails. This is a "vacation" ?

When the blackberry service came back on line I thought my little blackberry was going to fry up and die it was vibrating so much. 242 emails came in. Last one I got yesterday was just after 7:30 pm and service was restored about 12:30 pm today.

Sometimes I like to make them wait for an answer, about an hour before freak out time!!!

I don't even own a cell phone.
If someone wants to get a hold of me they just throw a rock with a note tied around it at me.

First thing this morning it was ADT with a Burglar alarm, I hate getting woke up at 5:00 am but anyway its all good when the burglar alarm dispatch calls, right? First they call the land line but we didn't get up for that but then the Buzz Buzz goes and I know right away it's sort of important. So let me think about that one front door multiple alarms, ya send the guard to see whats up. Call back saying it must have been the paper delivery guy bouncing the Globe & Mail off the Door, all secure. Next it was a call to get authorization to send an emergency payment by wire to our Uganda office, why we have an emergency two days before Christmas is anyones guess but thats Ok, that's all good too, I need to give my code to the bank to do that and so on it goes. Like I said service restored and 242 emails came in ...... geez.........

I hope they pay you well for all the after hours calls & e-mails, A friend of mine [yes I do have some] retired from the Toronto Police this yr, said the best thing was not having that "DAM" crackberry going off at all hrs of the day & night & hauling is a$$ out of bed at 2am for a shooting or whatever, if I had to put up with one of those things, "I'd fire it out the window at 100k on the 401"

I don't like the "have to be in contact all the time" type of lifestyle. I have an answering machine at home. If I don't answer, call back or wait for me to call back.

I tell everyone i know that cell phones and such are tracking devices. I dont need the wife to know where i am all the time. The phone is on when i want it to be on.

My phone is a cheapie Pay As You Go. I load it up for $25/month and have a ton of minutes left over at the end of the month. I like gadgets but never got on board the cell phone/texting craze. I'm sorry but I think those blue tooth things people wear on their heads look kind of silly and having something stuck that close to my brain transmitting at 800Mhz can't be healthy either.

the day i retired from the mob (military) was the day my answering machine kicked into overdrive. i only answer the phone if i feel like it. my wife got a friends son to accompany us to get a new package for our cell phones. the sales rep asked about texting mins for me and got the blank look. with my big finger, hard enough typing on a keyboard.

I spend 1100 to 1200 minutes on my cell each month and have a unlimited surf and text plan. In my business it is a must as I am very seldom near a land line in daytime

Unfortunately in today's world, that just isn't an option for many people, especially if you are in management.  You are on call 24/7, it's part of the job and if you don't like it, well, you can hand in your BB on your way out the door...

Mark me down as Todd the second! Pay as you go. Time leftover every month. No Blackberry.
Text on rare occasions and if I do, I send from the computer cause it's free!

I have a cell phone and a blackberry for my work.  I know, you don't need both - except that in an emergency, you can't read e-mails and talk on the phone at the same time. And of course I can log into the server at work at anytime. It's just the nature of work in this information age. You have to be connected.

When I retire - not anytime soon - I plan not to own a BB, and not to wear suit & tie (except at weddings & funerals).
