I think you should do what you think would be a fun project and you'd enjoy...for whatever your reasons... i do think that an sbc is the best motor for your car though, even lightened up a bit with some alum. heads... get a nice power to weight ratio working in your favour!

i'd like to see you take another acadian body like yours, put a straight axle in it, a 421 tri-power, 4 speed... three tall velocity stacks off the carbs out of the hood! even radius the wheel wells, some halibrand mag multi-spokes up front, chrome reverse and vintage slicks in the back... paint it your friends favourite colour, or multi colour, lacework etc.etc. and get a good artist with a brush to hand letter it as a tribute....ooooh, that sounds like a fun project!

Another part of my past is hanging around the NHRA points meets and following several local legends from my area that participated in NHRA stock & Super Stock classes.  I was always impressed by the guys that could find the best combo for a specific NHRA class.  I enjoyed the 283/wagon, 283/4dr sedan, 265/full size,  then you could switch the various 327 ci motors with different HP ratings to put your little chevy into a different class.
So, aside from what I do with the 63 Acadian Beaumont Sport Deluxe,  I do have a new thought, to take the 62 Acadian Beaumont four door, I got from Arizona several years ago and build an NHRA stocker clone, ala 1965 or so. One exception to the time line would be the Pontiac 400, sorry no 389.  That doesn't rule out multiple carbs. No electronics here, foot brake car (maybe a line lock).  Modifications would be limited to whatever was available back in the day.  May need to radius the rear wells, raise the front and a big scoop, definitly a scoop.  I really want it to be a 4 spd because of the fun factor.  Pontiac's are not high rev'rs so I need to factor the gear against the trans and of course tire size.
Any of you Canadians remember seeing the 4 dr NHRA or IHRA stock class cars running on the strip.
