Possible rare options in a '66...?

Per a "before" interior photo I took this summer of my '66, possible rare options include...

1)  "Needle-less" speedo
2)   Ignition located in steering wheel.

(Not to mention three-tone seats, "time-stands-still" clock, etc...)  I'm looking forward to cleaning her up...

I like the "needleless-needless speedo"... who needs one anyways! my clock doesnt work either, but i disconnect my battery every time i park the car...so having one working and out of time might bug me even more!

The one thing that 'bugs' me on these cars is that plastic chrome trim around the dash... i know when i was fixing up my car 20 years ago, i was looking into getting it replated... there werent too many guys that did that back then, i think it was in Texas!? ....i even thought of using model-foil and doing it myself... i'll have to do some quick internet research to see if that trim is reproduced or how much to replate -although i think i'd like to ship a spare!

are you keeping the steering wheel?! i have a similar vintage one on mine, i cant decide what to change it out to, i have the original, but want i like something smaller...

One winter (when I was driving the rag year round) I was driving on the freeway in -30C temperatures when the needle started "bouncing" from 0 to 120, making a grinding noise when all of a suddent the needle popped off and became silent.  (This was a dozen years ago.)
Re the steering wheel, I was in a speed shop this summer and saw the exact same wheel on the wall (called a classic I believe).  Had to laugh!  Mine was in the car when I bought it 28 or so years ago.  Funny thing is that I like the size and the "holes" somewhat match the gauges.  However, I just located an almost flawless horn ring and button (Beaumont), and a Chevelle wheel which I will be putting in this winter.
Re the chrome, I saw a blurb about some outfit that chromes plasic, that had a booth at SEMA.  (It was on a HOT ROD tv episode.)  Model foil might be the solution as they can look crummy when left alone...

PS  I just checked out you page.  I think that wheel looks good with the black interior!  (I've said it before, but I'll say it again.  That is a great looking car you have there!)

Thanks for the heads up.  That might be the ticket for the old plastic reverse lights?...

Read this:
have i got a story about that, i was leaving kildonan park with my car, i was 17, i hit the throttle leaving on main, there was 5.0 mustang that i was playing with.... my throttle got stuck wide open!! not too big of deal, it happened before with my 3 deuces when the engine was warm, so i'd shut it off and disconnect the linkages to the outboard 2 carbs...

i reached for the key and it fell out of the ignition and under my seat!!!!

now i'm flying full throttle, brakes locked up, catching up to the cars in front of me...
my cousin was with me, i was yelling at him to find the keys.... i swung into oncoming traffic to pass the cluster of cars in front of me, dodging construction signs as Main st. was down to 2 lanes due to construction of the Settlers bridge, i swung back into my lane, avoiding a head on.... i really didnt want to lose a motor by putting it into neutral so i slammed it into park!!! my car jump sideways ...yes, it really did, there were skid marks on fresh pavement to show how long i was driving with my brakes locked up and crooked skid marks off my rear tires after i put it back from park to drive to slow the car down...

i had a vision of my car rolled and totalled, so i kept going full throttle, had the presence of mind (or lack of it) to push my seat right back and my cousin found my keys and i turned the car off... for those that know North Main, i shut it down at the old Husky station (which is now a small car lot) and pulled into the Esso...

my friend was working at the husky that day, he heard the tires squeeling and was outside to see me fly by yelling "get the f---ing keys!!" over and over!!  that was maybe a 1/2 mile plus full throttle ordeal!! ...my glide handled being tossed back in forth from drive to reverse/park to slow the car down from about 70mph.... i was shaking and my dad came to drive the car home for me... it was nuts!

lesson learned.... i now have an ignition kill switch!! and i should have just put it into neutral and let it grenade....

ak

p.s. i found a repro complete gto dash on ebay, i've emailed the seller to see if he will just sell the chrome bezel...

Unbelievable story. Man, that could have been a lot, lot worse! Yeah, I'm thinking car ignitions have come a long ways since the '60's. (Note to self. Forget about upgrading to 3x2's.) Park from 70mph, ouuuuuuccccchhhhh!
Great news re the dash. That was quick!...
Re your avatar, I'm guessing that you park it in the winter?
