Without the SS emblems on the fenders, Ray, I'll bet this is what was removed.
If memory serves, the SS option was available on the Malibu model in 1973, but not on the Laguna, nor on the base Chevelle. I believe a true SS would be a 1973 Chevelle Malibu SS.
That's the problem with those over the counter emblems.
Things were further confused the following year when the SS was dropped from the Malibu line and the Laguna S3 arrived.
Hillar mentioned to me he has the sales brochure for the 73's, that might be helpful on all this. It is definite though that both SS and Laguna Wagons were built in 1973.

Chevy did something that one year that they should have done years before. They offered a Malibu SS wagon, even with a 454. For years, hotrodders were making their own SS wagons, and yet "The General" finally caught on in 1973 when it was already way too late. Way behind the curve, as usual.
