Canadiana...60 - 70's music. Post your faves!!

I love any 60 -80's Canadiana sound, it's not usually too heavy...North American actually. It's a sound and a certain culture that only we understand. Hell...I grew up on AM radio as much as you all (boomers) did. So my tastes and emotions move out towards the softer pop rock type of sounds. There's a ton of digital stuff out there...utube being a huge stockpile. It's dead easy to link to. So bring your fave link here, give a brief story of what it means to you...then lets have a listen! I'm open to any quality sound, but it must have a real cancon.
In the end we'll have a cool collection!

I'll start with a tune from Edward Bear with a totally sappy vid.

Clicking on the above embedded video will direct you right to the originating page.

A quick lesson on how to get the vid to open in this window.
Highlight and copy your fave. utube video's URL address...

4223211172_6a3f4db9c7_o.jpg

Go to, and open the CP "reply to" window in the thread.
Click on the filmstrip icon.
Paste the URL address you just copyied into the user prompt entry field.
Click ok.
Submit.... and the utube window should appear.

Note; You may get a "Scripted Window" pop up appearing when you click on the filmstrip icon. Click on the popup and "Allow" scripted windows.

your quote is kind of what its like being a Canadian on TeamChevelle right now! this site is a safe haven!hahaha!... too bad they don't just stick to cars...

i'm a bit too young for this music, but jim cale lives right across the sidewalk from me (guess who)... and i did like Neil Young -Cinnamon Girl...

also i was at the Experience Music Project in Seattle a few weeks ago, and reading some pages from Jimi Hendrix who wrote about how enamoured he was with Joni Mitchell at a concert in Ottawa...

and probably my favourite classic rock song of all time, with canadian content of course!

Most of you guys will recall that Winnipeg really was hot for bands way back when. Funny thing is, I never really was into the Winnipeg stuff exactly then. Now that I look back at the rock icons from Winnipeg I'm actually pretty proud to be a Manitoban (but not quite a Winnipeger!)

Mark can delete if this one is out of line, but one of my all time favourite pieces of music. I happen to love piano and organ music.

Are you kidding me. I love this tune...

this one's way off the path but I really enjoyed their music in the early 80's.

Glad you started this thread!  I just happened to be deeply into listening to a whole bunch of my ancient 8 tracks (quad and otherwise) I recently found.  Considering how finicky and ancient they and my equipment are, they sound great (especially the quads, the origiinal surround sound)  Anyway my contribution to the iconic Canadian sound has to be Stan Rogers, Barrett's Privateers.   This is as Canadian as it gets and should be totally familiar to anyone who has tried to sinig around a campfire. Sound like it's 200 years old but the late great Stan (from Hamilton) wrote it himself.

God Damn Them ALL! ARGGHH!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-PQbdmQRwc

Yes Ken. Absolutely Stan Rogers. He was (and still is) a local icon here.
I linked it for you. all you have to do is paste the above address into the filmstrip icon on the posting page and you'll get this..

Good idea for a thread.

These live versions aren't up to the originals, but I do like The Cooper Brothers, from Ottawa.

Here, for your listening pleasure, are the originals:

Dream Never Dies

Rock n' Roll Cowboys

Thanks for the paste!  I am proud to say that I have two LPs that Stan autographed for me at a concert in Edmonton in early 83 (who knew how few days he had left?)

However I also want to go on to link the ultimate car song by the quintessental  Canadian (whiny old Neil Young)

Long May You Run   which is a salute  to his old Pontiac Hearse (Mortimer) that died in Blind River Ontario in 1963. It could apply to any of our old beasts.

What a great song!

The best version is from the 1976 Stills/Young album Long May You Run but this is the best I could find.

Enjoy, my fellow Pontiac guys!
