Anyone here own a "Netbook"?

I'm thinking of buying one of those mini laptop "Netbooks" and wondered if any of you guys have one and can recommend a decent brand. I've looked at the MSI Wind U123-0002US Netbook and it seems impressive. The price is decent. Tigerdirect.ca sells it for $319. I merely need one to take to work. For some strange (wink) reason CanadianPoncho has been blocked at work. However it is accessable on the public wireless network we have for customers. That way I can check in on the site on my lunch hour.

My wife has an ASUS eeePC-900HA loaded with Windows XP Home.

Great little computer. Wireless, webcam, yada, yada, yada. She uses it in the kitchen and living room.

The main difference between her netbook and my notebook is the absence of a DVD drive and a smaller screen.

haha! I'd take my laptop but don't want to risk it getting lost, stolen or busted.

I hear the early Netbooks were better as they used SD card for memory (no risk of hard drive failure) but I don't see any of them for sale on kijiji etc.

We have the same one.  It is my understanding ASUS is a well respected manufacturer of hardware componets that just started to build their own computers.
I bought it on a trip south to use while traveling.  My wife had taken over the laptop, so back in October when I delivered a car to Florida, I bought one at a Best Buy store for $299 plus tax.  It works great and when we travel, including Florida for the winter, we each have our own computer.  I also bought a silicone roll up keyboard ($8.50) on eBay daily deal with USB connector to plug into the Netbook and it makes it a little easier for me to type email.  The larger laptop has a DVD drive so it is not an issue.
The wireless companies like Verizon are selling the Netbooks for as low as $169 if you purchase broadband modem and 2 yr internet service at the same time.  Modem is $50 (I got mine with a $50 mail in rebate = $0) and minimum service is $40/month.

Exactly the same here.

She was tired of competing with me for the big PC so that is what she wanted and she is delighted with it. $329 @ BestBuy. Only difference I think is the model number, I don't remember that, but it had a slightly bigger screen (11.6" instead of the usual 10") for no additional cost.

Also, I had previously installed a wireless router on the big PC so it hooks into that just fine, she can print whatever she wants on the main printer wirelessly (is that a word???). Only thing is, at first she tried a cheaper netbook with WIndows 7 and it would NOT share files or printers or anything with the XP on the big PC, so we took it back (nice thing about BestBuy, they do not flinch at returns for any reason) and got the Asus with XP and all is well.
