Quite often I'll go on Ebay or Kijiji, and come across items that I'm not interested in, but that I feel other Poncho members might be. When this happens, I usually post a link (along with "not mine"). On the one hand I think it's often advantageous for members to see these, on the other hand this action may be bringing in other competitors who are bidding against members therefore costing the member additional cash. Therefore my question is...
Should we be posting items that we come across on sites such as Ebay, Kijiji etc?
(I guess another question would be...Should these be posted in the Lounge so that only members can see them?)
Feedback is appreciated as I don't want to p#@s anyone off. thx

Being new to this site, and knowing how diffucult it can be to find parts for a classic of any kind,I say post em! But You have a good idea about posting them in the member lounge only.
I DON'T HAVE ANY ISSUES WITH DOING THAT. I THINK IT HELPS OUT MEMBERS WHO OTHERWISE MIGHT MISS THAT "MUST HAVE" CAR OR PART. IT IS TOUGH ENOUGH TRYING TO FIND CERTAIN PARTS FOR THESE CANADIAN CARS. JUST MY
A couple of times someone has posted up what I've been interested and I just go "arrrrrrrrrrgh" and move on! After all, it's on the internet for all to see anyway!

How many hours can we spend on a computer ? We can't possibly see everything that might interest us. If someone finds something that would benefit one of us, please throw it up.
It's a great idea, but won't the lounge turn in to one big classifed ad of poncho parts when we have an area for that. Todd could make it members only just like the lounge.
Yeah I think it needs to stay in the classifieds, not the lounge... ideally it would stay of out the general discussion areas for specific models too...
Good point. If it's a Beaumont part, I've usually posted it under the Beaumont section. If there's a better way though?...

Yep, post it. I have thought about making the cars for sale ads private. Thoughts?
The one possible negative with that is those who are pretty low on the "geek" meter (like me....) may be scared off by the process of signing up to the site just to read the classified, thus scaring off potential readers.
The separate area is an idea used by many forums. Usually title ebay, craigslist, etc ads in the heading.

I have been a subscriber to Old Autos pretty well from the beginning(1988) and I would presume many on here do also. It has a very good classified section and I am wondering also, would it be proper to post ads from it for Canadian Pontiac cars or parts. I'm also a newbie here and wouldn't want to rock the boat.
I find it helpful when members post car or parts ads they are aware of that might be of interest to other members but which the other members might not see otherwise.
Post it if you want too. It's a open market and this site attracts potential buyers. Making it private would be a mistake because it limits the exposure. Sometimes I hold back on things that I'm into but I also see a ton of other great stuff for other members that is unrelated to my cars so I post the crap out of it. I usually say, " go get it!!!". I hope that some guys would do the same for me when it comes to 64-65 Beaumont stuff. More eyes on the prize is better.
Post away. None of us has time to search out each Kiijiji, or similar, site across the country. If this means we have to pay competitive pricing for something vs getting it for a steal then so be it.
