Russo & Steele Scottsdale Hit by Tornado

I just read this on another board. There's not a lot of info however folks are saying a lot of cars were damaged at this auction.

I'm sure lots of pics will surface today. Scary stuff!

SCOTTSDALE -- Owners of collector cars worth millions haven't been able to assess the damage after vicious winds shredded two tents at the Russo-Steele Auto Auction in Scottsdale. Those cars, several of them convertibles with the tops down, have been exposed to the rain all night and morning.

Crews will be on site later this morning to clean up the tents and make sure the area is safe before the owners are allowed back in.

The Oldsmobile in one shot looks to have an Ontario plate on it. It's sad seeing all those convertibles that were out all night in the rain with the tops down. no

They are getting rain alright.  They should be selling a few more of those amphicars.  I was driving my little Cobalt rent a car through water even with the floor boards before I was able to get onto the freeway.  Every low spot is a lake but today is fairly nice with the sun shining every time I stick my head out of the tent.  Place is packing up now for the evening run.

Lot Number: F461 Friday (Approx. 4:00PM - 4:30PM)

This is a real 1967 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 with an interesting history. Only 502 of these factory race cars were built, and this car is oneof-one known with the California AIR equipment still intact on the original engine. The car is Saffron Yellow with a black bucket-seat interior and center console, factory 4-speed transmission, power steering, and "radio-delete". The original 400 c.i./370 h.p. engine is still in place with all the exotic RAM AIR equipment, red inner fenders, and trunk-mounted battery.

The car was found some years ago in central California. It had been sitting outside for 15 years and, of course, needed a full restoration. Photographs of the car as found are included with the purchase. A complete no-expense-spared body off the frame restoration was done to the highest standards. Photo documentation and receipts from the restoration go with the car.

Oldsmobile expert Curt Anderson was consulted during the restoration and was flown in by me, after the fact, to examine the car in person. His report, photos, and letter go with the car.

Since the restoration, I have shown the car three times. It received "Best 442 of Show" three consecutive years at the annual Scottsdale B.O.P.

As I write this, I suspect that no other 1967 W-30's will be available at the auction. This is a rare opportunity to own perhaps the best remaining example, in near-perfect condition, and a car well known by respected Oldsmobile experts.

I didn't realize it was that bad. I drove by there this morning and the cars were covered in individual plastic so of course I didn't notice much but the tent ended up all the way up onto the freeway so a person knows how much force there was. Truly unfortunate and I would hate to see how long it will take for insurance to get sorted out for who covers what.

I'm shocked at the damage. Did you see the Chevelle with the hole poked in the panel behind the back window? That damaged Superbird was tough to look at too. The Shelby's...the destroyed Firebird.....
