Thanks Ray for thr great story. I sold Hillar the mufflers for $20.00 a piece at this past fall's Barrie flea market. He emailed me once they were installed and was quite happy with the sound. If anyone is to buy that car I hope it is you Ray as I think Hillar would want you to have it. It is quite obvious you and Hillar were the best of friends as Hillar kept saying at the flea market I wish Ray was here and I can't wait to tell him how much fun I had with the guy's from Timmins. He was so happy when he returned from a bike ride with a four barrel air cleaner. When Paul inspected it he told Hillar do not repaint this one as it still had factory green markings on the inside of it. I only spent time with Hillar twice but both times were like I knew him forever, that was the type of personality he had. Thanks Todd for featuring Astro Jets 1970 2+2. This is another car that I had that my wife affectionaly nicknamed "the pickle". The only difference was the top, mine was a dark green vinyl the same colour as the bottom Verodo Green. That car ran great with the the 350-300hp.
I'm glad that Hillar got to post those photos of his cars being put to bed for the winter. I (and others) told him what a beautiful '70 2+2 he had there. It's good that we got to tell him before it was too late.
Life is too short. Just when you've started to figure it all out..............
Thanks for posting this! Hillar was most proud of this car. He even bragged it sounded better then my Green Mustang, in fact we were to have a sound off in the spring to see. Boy , do I miss him!!
Amazing car that I didn't even realize I had seen, before Hillar bought it. I was just looking through pictures of show & shines from 2009 and look what I found!
Now that we're towards the end of February I guess it's time to bid the car farewell.
I had a lot of fun getting the car and tinkering with it to get it to the condition of the photo's, and also dealing with Hillar regarding passing it to his stewardship. It was a good car, and with Hillar's tinkering (I guess to say the last car he tinkered with) he made it even better.
After reading these posts today I decided to go pay the 2+2 a visit. Darryl came a long. We unwrapped the three Ponchos I have in storage, My 73 GT, Hillar's 68 GTO and 70 2+2. We connected the batteries and fired them up, it was symphony of Poncho power, all 1,150 cubic inches of 950 V8 HP power rumbling and idlling we sat in them one by one and took it all in. I couldn't help but think of Hillar and the fun we we were going to have this summer heading to cruise ins in out Pontiacs.
Absolutely!!! My Dad has also passed but he always said that the time you put into your (my) cars, what you add or subtract, is a reflection of you and will stay there forever more... There will always be parts of Hillar in that car that will never leave and will travel in the passenger seat where ever the 2+2 goes........!
