Wilma !!! 1961 GMC 9 ft box

Posting for a friend

I sure hope this works for yer viewing pleasure.  This is WILMA my 1961 GMC pickup truck.  She has a 234 Thriftmaster 6-cylinder engine with a 4-speed trans. that includes "BULL-LO."  She also has a 9 foot box.  Yep, nine foot!  All she needed for a safety was 2 small welds, a set of u-bolts for the leaf-springs and a set of wiper arms and wiper blades and that was it.  Heck, even the emergency brake works on it!  I picked her up down by Sarnia last August.

I use to have a 65 fleet side. Whem my Xwife and my self split she wanted it gone and I had no where to put it so I sighed the TOD and told here to sell it. She sold it for $200 at the garage sale. The good part is it has never been on the road since and about a month ago I found out I can have it back for $500. I am still thinking about it as I already have two other projects

They came from the factory with a nine foot box. I saw several in Sask. and I remember one that was local here in Nfld.

Remember I met a guy years ago had a 51 GMC with a 9 ft box...He'd totally restored it and I remember him telling me when he was looking for a box for it, he found one on the side of the road. Someone had made theirs into a flatdeck or something and dumped the old box in the ditch.
I think Edsprojectcars had one for sale a while back as well, with the 9 ft box

Yes, the nine foot box is factory. It's listed on the ownership as 3/4-1 ton. It has a 235 Thriftmaster 6-cylinder in it not a 234 as I must have had a brain cramp when typing it in. Whoever owned the truck before the guy I bought it off of, must have done a lot of work to it as the inner fenders (although purple) are in mint condition and a lot of time was spent mechanically on it; obviously if it pretty much walked right through a safety. The first thing I did when I got it home was take that white paint off of the wheels! YIKES! Speaking of "What were they thinking?"
I've got a set of 1961 plates for it already okayed by the ministry so all I have to do tomorrow is go in and get my annual sticker for it and I'm away. I plan to pretty it up over the spring and summer. I've got an original paint chip for GMC 1961 as well as an original 1960 Chevrolet Truck
Shop Manual + 1961 Supplement and owner's manual and the ever so popular '60-'66 Chevrolet Truck Assembly Manual. So a goldmine of information. Thanks for your interest fellas! And a special thank you goes out to Carl427 for sneaking it on this website! Crafty little fella that Carl427 is!! Sent it to him just to show him what I had and then found it on here by surprise.
Thanks a million Carl.

NOPE! Some dorkenheimer actually PAINTED the sidewalls! I asked the kid I bought it off of if HE
was responsible for it but he said he bought it that way. And let me tell ya, it wasn't easy getting that stuff off either. There's still traces of it left on but I'll get the rest of it off once the warmer weather gets here as it really helps if the tires are sun-heated because it makes it just a little easier getting it off. Pathetic man!
