1965 Pontiac Grand Prix

I recently aquired a 1965 pontiac grand prix. It is by no means perfect but likely an easy restore or driver. I am only selling because of an unexpected VERY EXPENSIVE home repair I have to do. if you have any questions or would like more pics. shoot me an email and well take it from there. Chevy71@gmail.com I paid 6500 for it a couple months ago. Asking 6500 OR BEST OFFER Most chrome except for the bumpers is pitted the bumpers appear to have been rechromed. It would be best if you just seen the car in person Just thought i would post here and give you guys a peek before going to the public classifieds. Not bad for a 45 year old car.  Five bolt rims missing centers. All four power windows work, The factory clock and vac gauge work perfectly. Drivers door panel will need replacement and there is evidence of a previous body job done at some point. Passenger mirror missing. Winshield cracked. Also car is located in SARNIA ONTARIO
Thanks

It's a lovely car Jamie, one of PMD's nicest bodys imop. It definately worth bringing back up to par, a shame you cant keep it, but it'll make someone proud one day.
The slow response here is probably because most here like me know nothing about the USA 65 Gp's.

The NADA numbers below reflect a base model Gp with a standard 389, which I think is what you have. Research tells me clean original condition, bigger engine, 4 speed, 8 lugs and air can boost the price significantly. But for the standard Gp, these NADA numbers are probably close, your's falling into the upper low retail category. I spent a little time poking around and saw a low of $800 for a parts car, to $29000 for an exceptional, high optioned one, with quite a few in the 4 to 6 range. Your price of $6500 is likely a fair starting point, but I have to say with the market being what it is in Canada, you might not create much traffic with that number. You say the trim is pitted, cracked windshield, needs a door panel, unoriginal wheels, mystery bodywork. I'd have to say without offence and regardless of what you paid, a figure of $6000 might be more realistic to start, might bring more interest with a bottom line of $5000. You never really know though...there is absolutely a growing following for the these Gp's, and someone might be out there just right for it. Seeing it in person like you suggest, would give a better appraisal of it's true condition.

Cheers, and good luck
Mark

From Jan 2010 NADA guide

1965 Pontiac Grand prix base. USD

Low Retail       Average Retail Value        High Retail
 $5,675                    $10,950                     $20,100

 Low Retail Value
This vehicle would be in mechanically functional condition, needing only minor reconditioning. The exterior paint, trim, and interior would show normal wear, needing only minor reconditioning. May also be a deteriorated restoration or a very poor amateur restoration. Most usable "as-is".
Note: This value does not represent a "parts car".

Average Retail Value
This vehicle would be in good condition overall. It could be an older restoration or a well-maintained original vehicle. Completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. A "20-footer".

High Retail Value
This vehicle would be in excellent condition overall. It could be a completely restored or an extremely well maintained original vehicle showing very minimal wear. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are not in need of reconditioning. The interior would be in excellent condition. Note: This value does not represent a "100 Point" or "# 1" vehicle *.
* "100 Point" or "# 1" vehicle is not driven. It would generally be in a museum or transported in an enclosed trailer to concourse judging and car shows. This type of car would be stored in a climate-regulated facility.

WOW absolutely OUTSTANDING. thanks for the help I appreciate it very much.
Yes i agree it is unfortunate that I cannot keep this rare beauty. I had plans for complete restoration beginning with a media blast. I can only hope that someone else falls in love with this beauty like I did.
Again, Thank you very much for your help and insight.
Cheers

Your welcome. The Internet makes it easy.

One other factor that could help with making it more desirable is documentation. Do you have anything from the cars history. Dealership and State of origin, owner and repair history, Protecto, etc, etc. If you do, make sure to make mention of it in the ad. And be sure to take some nice clear, well lit shots of everything...like we'd like to have seen, lol!

Will you Kijiji it?

Echoing what Mark stated, the used "classic car " market is very slow moving right now. I've had 2 of my cars up for sale for over a year and still have them. Nobody has even come to look and make an offer on my one Trans Am and it's priced below $2000 for a running driving car with original paint. So prepare yourself for the long haul or rock bottom the price and see if anything happens. Nice car by the way!

It seems the only buyers in Canada right now are in Alberta. The oil industry is still strong and folks there aren't worried about spending money. If I were selling I'd be advertising on Kijiji in that province!

Ditto here on selling my 64 Catalina 2+2 only calls I get are for trades so far, 2 guys with motorcycles, & one with a Chevy II [sorry I swore there] & I won't take a trade now that I found out you have to pay tax on value of trade!!!!

well I am going to stay off kijiji for now because I REALLY dont want to see this car go to someone who isnt going to take care of it. I know the guys on this board share my passion i would feel much better knowing the car was going to someone who sees its potential.

dont bet on the oil industry being that strong we just figure they cant repo a credit card , we are probably the worst province for boom bust cylces.  the weather affect our costruction season, im now doing Auto glass and home renos to make ends meet so much for the alberta advantagenice car by the way have worked on 65 GPs before like a CS 409 car but alot smoother
