They are fantastic that's for sure. As someone who sees about 6 to 10 hockey games a week from tyke to NHL and has coached for almost 20 years I have to say that the level of play of our female national team is about on par with Midget AAA boys, besides the USA and maybe Sweden the rest fall under that in skill level.  I find the games generally super slow and deliberate BUT of course I will be cheering them on to GOLD.

Sweden VS Slovakia....6-2 was a pretty good game in the first. I wasn't expecting APTN to carry the game.  I thought it had to have First Nation content.
I aslo noticed every Slovak player name ends with ova confuseconfuse

I asked my Slovak wife and she tells me that ova is attached to all female last names to indicate exactly that.  So if you were a boy when you are born you stick with your parents  name but if you are a girl you get an ova attached to the end of it

She also notes that it is interesting that ova basically means egg.  hmmmm.

Well I love hockey probably as much as any Canadian but I don't know how you could sell any tickets to these preliminary games unless you had your kid playing there. It's tough for me to justify it when you have to wait to the final to get a decent game. I think put them in that short track roller derby that's going on, I'd pay to watch that. I think the women that were trying to get ski jumping incorporated maybe are more deserving of some competition that is more even and not scores with 10 or more goal differences. Don't get me wrong, love women's hockey. Played shinny with my 20 year old daughter this morning at the rink while she's home from university. Does it deserve to be at the Olympics or should we just be happy we have a good shot at a gold medal. I've got mixed feelings.

Mens hockey was the same blowouts as well when it was introduced.
I watch the men's halfpipe lastnight.......no one came near the flying tomato from the USA. Anything that is judged is not fair in my eyes.
Now the short track speed skating thats a good watch

My initial thoughts of whether the ladies should be playing hockey at the Olympics is leaning more and more towards not. I think this is 12 years now since it was introduced and the 2 top teams have won by a combined score of something like 71 to 3 in the games played so far. Last nite the 8 seeded men's team lost to the reigning Olympic champs by 1 goal and they rang one off the post in the last couple minutes. That's a little more the way it should be. Let the women rest until Europe or Asia can give some real competition. See what those women ski jumpers can do.
