Notice no 325 hp Turbo Jet listed for the Sport Option cars? Interesting...

I notice that the 350 horse 396  in the Brochure is listed with dual exhaust and my 325 horse 396  in my 66 Grande Parisienne came standard with single exhaust. (dual was optional.) Thats probably why the higher HP listed in the Chevelle.  I would bet that the engines are otherwise the same. (other than the dressup stuff)

Well, the US Chevelles for 66 & 67 offered 3 different 396's:

- 325 HP

- 350 or 360 HP

- 375 HP

The differnce between the 325 and the 350/360 HP versions was (1) camshaft (the 350/360 was higher lift and longer duration) and carburetor (the 325 was slightly smaller). Both of these were oval port heads, hydraulic lifter cam. The 375 had big rectangular port heads, solid lifter cam. All had dual exhaust.

Interesting that the Canadian Chevelles were slightly different.

My 66 Chevelle SS396, that I bought new off the showroom floor, had the base 325HP motor and came from the factory with dual exhaust. Chrome valve covers and air cleaner top (single snorkel) too.

Also Holley carb (vacuum secondaries) on cast iron intake manifod.

Dunno about full size cars, although a guy I knew back then had a 66 Impala with the same motor, and I think it was single exhaust, but I really do not remember for sure.

Yes, that was my point. I have seen in the past that the Canadian A bodies were not listed with 325 horse. A few months back I ran a thread asking for someone to step up with a documented 325 horse Beaumont but no takers. Not saying it doesn't exist but the evidence of such a thing is pretty weak it seems.

Ken, my 66 GP factory 4 speed car was originally a 396 325 horse. It has N10 dual exhaust listed as an option, as you say.

i woulda thought the L35 became available in Beaumont Dec 66 for the 738 cars?
prior to that i thought all Beaumonts were only available with L34?

as far as brochures go?

I have the early and mid-year revision 1967 brochures for both the Beaumonts & Canadian Chevelles. The early brochures talk about the Sports option and do not list the 325-horse 396. The mid-year revision Canadian Chevelle brochure now showed the SS396 and listed the 325-horse 396 as base on the SS396. The 350-horse remained the top optional engine. Did you check out that hack airbrush job on the SS396 on the cover? They did all right with the grille detail & the flat hood, but on the side you can still make out some leftover side pinstripes in places. They did not remove the Super Sport emblem from the rear quarter, and they did a hack job adding the Malibu SS quarter emblem.

Its curious that they did not list the Turbohydramatic in the early Chevelle brochure but added it in the revised version, yet the Beaumont brochures both early and revised do show the Turbohydramatic. My early Chevelle option list shows the Turbohydramatic as being available with the 396 right from the start of 67 production.

Note the lack of AM/FM radio, tilt wheel, cruise control, air conditioning, mag-style wheel covers. Some of that stuff was available in Canada as dealer-installed only (unless your Chevelle was U.S.-built).
