I went to check the #"s on engine in my 52 Torpedoback, supposed to be a 305, there's no # stamped into pad on right front by alternator?? I can't see casting # at back behind distributor near trans. either. Thought they all had #'s on front pad????

Sometimes engines that are line bored and decked will have the pad number removed    I can't explain why theres not a casting number at the back   I looked on many engine info sites, and no one mentioned not finding numbers   my smart ass side, thinks do you need glasses? or a better light?   but I would not print that here   Carl

Carl, you "DOG" you found me out!!!  Ya, maybe right on both counts, but I didn't spend a whole lot of time looking for casting # at back. There's not a lot of room there between engine & firewall, I was just curious as to what it came out of, I'll get the back # when I "yank" it out once I get that far , right now working from the back to the front on body & floors.

I BELIEVE ON SOME THEY STAMPED THE NUMBERS DOWN BY THE OIL FILTER OR ON THE FLANGE AREA WHERE THE TRANS. BOLTS UP.
