I'm sitting here watching the news, and they announced that, as of July 1 2010, buyers of used cars will pay 12% sales tax, even on private sales. This includes boats. And the HST on everything else takes effect at the same time. If only Alberta had a coastline.............

That will sure help out the ordinary Joe in a recession !!!! These guys have no clue how to run a ice cream stand let alone run the government....These politicians work for us not the other way around..Kick then out.
In Ontario, come July 1, it will be 13% on the highest of a) your receipt or b) an independent appraiser. And "they" say this tax is "neutral". You do the math. McSquinty evidently failed grade 5 math.
so...how many times can you pay sales tax on an item??? Sask did it on cars a few years back, it was on the value over $3000. They removed it a few years ago,, it was a shameless tax grab. But I found out last summer, that on a camper trailer...you pay every time ,, I was some PO'd. Not as many RV buying people complaining like there was on the used cars.
And at the time of the tax grab,,if they didn't like the value on your bill of sale , they used 'their' numbers.
It just disgusts me.....

every time a used car is sold in bc you pay 7% tax an old car can generate alot of tax dollars if sold many times we are gettin hst it fricking sucks as todd said can you say underground? tax is hitting us canadians so bad at the middle income level so much that im changing my tactics now.Hydro has jumped up big time here and they want 33% more in 3 years.???????????? Well I thought we were running the show "by VOTING" but it seems the majority of people here in Ontario, like getting "screwed" by Mc GOOFY or they wouldn't keep voting for the Liberals in Bi -elections!!!!! Come on folks, show these "GOOFS" that your PI$$ED!!! Everytime they win a riding, they think they are on the right track & tax the "crap" out of us evenmore!!! Not to say that the next bunch would be any better, but they might think twice if McGOOFY was "dumped on his a$$" on the ballots. There will likely be more bi- elections as people change their mind as to run again or go local, so let's give these guys a MESSAGE!!!!

It will not matter what political party is in power, taxes will always be there. Todd is correct when he mentions "The Underground Economy". This in my opinion is only going to get bigger and we are all guilty participants. You southern people are lucky to have McSquinty as he has done absolutely nothing in the Northern part of the province to protect jobs but did OK for the auto industry in the South. I personally am fed up will all politicians including the school boards. There should only be one school board and that should be public. Almost 50% of your property taxes go to school boards and how many boards are there? English public, French public, English Catholic French Catholic. What next Muslim ,Islamic.Jewish and Aboriginals with fully funded school boards and their owns schools and buses.Imagine the tax savings if we only had to fund one board. The number of schools we operate is absolutely ridiculous. Where I live I see waste every day. Buses with one or two kids on them, French speaking kids with there own buses because the school boards want the kids to speak French only. This is all thanks to a Conservative by the name of Bill Davis who introduced full funding to the then Seperate school system. I vote for whatever candidate I think is going to work the hardest for our riding. I do not car what politicial party they are from. I think it is the party system that is wrong in Ontario and Canada and most elected politicians do not vote for the best interests of the people they represent but vote for what thier party want and tells them to do.

Doesn't matter what party or politition, they say want you want to here, then once their in, it's a different story, it's "screw you" I'm in JACK, I'll vote for whatever the "party" wants, not what I told you when you voted for me"

keep livin the dream boys! the BC goberment is raising used car taxes to 12% while lowering taxes on new luxury cars over 55 grand.Is that a fair thing to do in a recession?I DONT CARE IM GOING UNDER

Yes, and don't forget you fellow Ontarian's- Get your Canadian Poncho swag before I have to charge HST! I got a letter from the tax office. There is an 8 hour seminar coming up in London on the 29th about the HST. Looks like I'm going to have to book a day off from my real job to take part. Joy....

i agree with that rant also Al. Im leaving this country in two yrs.(wish it was sooner) and the only thing i dont like about Canada is the politics and how were always gettin screwed!! I love Canada, dont get me wrong, but how much more can we put up with??? Remember, always a discount to CP members when i open up my little hacienda vacation house in Mexico..OLA!!
