Tire and rim width question.

rallys.jpg

On my 67 Gp I'm running 15x8 Rallys with 255 70 15 T/A's. In corners the raised lettering on the rear tires will rub the odd time on the hooks for the fender skirts. The fronts will catch the outer tread blocks on the front wheelwell trim at full lock when reversing. It's obvious they're at the outer limit of what this car will accept. They look nice, but what's the point?

Question. Will installing a narrower tire such as a 235 70 15 on the 8" wheel cure the rub. I mean will the tire section actually be that much narrower that I'll eliminate the rubbing?

Or will I need to move to a 15x7 Rally with a 235 or narrower tire to eliminate the issue?

If I do need a 15x7 rally, I'd be willing to straight trade these wider wheels and tires for 15x7's with tires around 235 wide in equal condition.

The Rallys are 1972 Corvette. Very good condition, come with derbys, not flats shown.
Tires are at least 75-80%.

Cheers, Mark.

Mark, I have had the same issue with the 8" rims on just about all my B bodies over the years (running 225 70 15 BFGs) except the 69 Parisienne (don't know why that is). E.g. they used to rub on my 65 Parisienne. There was no rubbing with the 7" rim, and the largest tire I ran in that combo was also a 225 70 15.
