Wrecking yard engineering?

Pontorquer's thread on his wrecking yard adventure made me thing we need to share some ingenuity used in yards!

Couple of things come to mind for me----

-60's GM wiper arms, blade removed are good for opening trunks when the trunk lock is missing.

-If it's a sunny day, a rear view mirror held at the right angle can make a good trouble light.

-Leave the nut threaded flush with the top of the shaft on the steering column, hammer on the nut while pulling for all you're worth to remove the steering wheel.

-To remove a diff, if the yard will allow it, hacksaw the control arms if they aren't needed. It's WAY faster than dealing with those rusty bolts!

-Metric sockets often fit a very rusty standard bolt/nut.

-Two slim flat screwdrivers will remove a window crank if you're in a bind and left the tool at home.

Carl you forgot one.....
A Huff loader will almost pull a 327 off the transmission if the inspection cover is still on.... almost. That was fun.

I take one of those jump start power packs with me, hook it up to the battery cables, and then you can see if power accessories work before you remove them.
