Earth Hour

If you are looking for me online Saturday at 8:30pm est, you won't find me. Mrs Canadian Poncho has advised me that I have to sit in the dark for an hour to celebrate earth hour. Don't worry though, the Canadian Poncho servers will be up during this time as we will shift all our resources to servers that are not in an affected time zone. I think I'll take this time to fire up my old car biggrin

I may "turn on" every light in the house & "fire up" the A/C just to screw this stupid idea up!!!  This isn't going to do a dam thing, when the 3rd. world industry doesn't do a thing to help "global " warming, with child labour, no human rights ETC.

I'll spend the time pondering how we are going to make ends meet with the HST, "smart meters" etc. Some folks (like us) can't change our power usage habits. We take care of my elderly inlaws and unfortunately we can't wait until after 6 to feed them. Our stove and dishwasher is pretty much running all day. It's a joke.

 Just one man's opinion tho'biggrin

heard on the radio today the HST was orinally to be called the :BLENDED TAX: but opposition was calling it the B/S tax & Ottawa changed the name. Commentator said this is NOT revenue neutral tax, we are going to be "screwed" for at least 5 yrs even if Gov. gets voted out [ OH I HOPE ] as it's signed for that length of time!!!  BEND OVER & TAKE IT LIKE A MAN  !!!!!

Very surreal going outside in a City of 3,000.000 + and seeing the darkness, surreal and impressive. It is a good idea.

I had every intention of turning my lights off for that hour, however, I was running late so I turned them off about midnight and left them off all night to make up for it.

I celebrated by starting the El Camino and running it for a while. Come on, an hour! What difference is thet going to make? I ride my bicycle and take transit whenever I can.

I think this hour is just for the politicos and socialists to make themselves feel good. How about doing this on a Tuesady afternoon at say 3 to 4. Now that will make a difference!

It won't matter to the politicians, they're not at work anyway!  And in the better weather a lot will be burning up fuels going on nice vacations.  Just my unpolished opinion.  Our lights were on, had my mom over and baby to take care of.  We did have it all off by 10 and baby let us sleep through until about 7:30.  That's a rarity so i guess in our house the younger generation led the way to save energy.

Earth hour is not organized by any government or politicians, it is a grass roots  global event organized by WWF - World Wildlife Fund and is held on the last Saturday of March annually, asking households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change. Earth Hour was conceived by WWF in 2007, when 2.2 million residents of Sydney Australia participated by turning off all non-essential lights. Just thought some facts would be helpful to this post.
