How to get good power out of modern V8'/cars???

Out of curiosity, how can you get big power out of modern cars/v8's, that are now computerized and have catalytic converters and all this other stuff.
For example what can I do to the Crown Vic P71 to get some good power. Its pretty much stock, just got new oil change.

However, when I slammed the gas going from 30, its like it struggled, didn't want to go, then it finally went. You could hear the engine revving hard, but took awhile for they tranny to go.  Any idea's?

Plus how to get more power? Supercharge the 4.6  biggrinno?

You're asking 281 cubic inches of small Ford V8 to try to get 5,000 pounds of Ford moving. It's not very happy about it.  :)

Contact Chader on this site. He has a Marauder with a blower on it.

However, don't expect miracles. It IS a Ford, after all......... rofl.gif

Force air to it(blower) and it will go as good as any car in its class with the same money spent on it! The best part about the forced air to these cas is they do not mess up the street manners or drivability. Cops and Cabs beat the pi$$ out of these cars daily so i figure it is ok for us.

Well I can't help but ask how many Km's on this car. Someone already said it, Cops beat the pis$ out of it, maybe it's just shot.

My stock 4.6 has more horsepower per cubic inch and is faster than most "muscle" cars we love to chat about. Of course it's not a Ford.

same as the old ones!

get a air intake system, performance heads and a good exhaust, the hard

part is trying to maximize peformance and keeping it smog legal and affordable

the 5.0 mustang guys get some good power, same stuff works on the vics

but a trans and gear upgrade would be helpful, the stock slushomatics are

a bit lacking in performance, but can take a beating i promise! for u chevy lovers

my 96 Lt1 caprice, will smoke the tires right off, and gets 25mpg

Did you try holding the engine wide open (to get revs up) BEFORE you pulled it into drive?

No, I mean I was going around 30, then  I slammed on the gas, but all it did was go the same speed slowly increasing, you heard the engine reving harder, wanting to go faster, then it kicks in and jerked forward. But it doesn't happen when Overdrive is off? Is overdrive better or no?

I'M THINKING YOU SHOULD GET THE TRANSMISION CHECKED OUT.

I agree with Mike that something is wrong. If I slam the gas on my 4.6 at 30 the tires start spinning, but again it's not a Ford.

I wonder if the catalytic converter is clogged or something. Last Time I had a check engine light on, it was pointing to the catalytic converter.

Have you checked the transmission fluid? Both amount and color as well as the smell. If it's black and stinky there's your problem.

When I got my oil changed, he checked the fluid, and said all was good. He showed me a sample too, it wasn't black or bad. He even said to be honest, the fluid was good (which i was surprised, since all these mechanics down here like to bs me. he didn't try and sell me into getting a transmission fluid change on top of that, he said to wait)

Guys, it seems the car has the same problem as these guys had.

Here

Mine doesn't seem major, just  a bit of lag, when you gun it. Fluid is brownish, Could it use a change?

I was out at lunch along Eglinton Ave. E in Toronto, it is a 6 lane,  8 in some places divided arterial road. All of a sudden the boys are hitting the lights and pulling smoking U turns in the left turn lane access to Walmart in front of me, I dive two lanes to the right to give them room, one right after the other, then full throttle to a bus stop just a head. I turn into Canadian Tire driveway and another one is coming straight at me, It's one way so I have to back it up to let him out, by me and he plants it going wrong way into 4 eastbound lanes.

All I can say is these P71's displayed no hint of over revving & hesitation, NONE AT ALL.
