Chris, I don't even want to know the amount for you!!! I'd likely have to get hauled away in an ambulance, hyperventilating..... laughing.gif

It's hard for me to put a number on this as it changes from year to year. I'd say an average of 2k.

My whole point in asking was to prove how much we do for the economy with the car hobby. It's not hard to see that getting rid of clunkers etc certainly would have a noticeable effect on the economy. Obviously the people who sells us the goods and services for our old cars would be affected by the lack of this hobby. That's a lot of money we are talking about here.

The "old vs young" thread made me think about this. I've seen this done before on car forums.

What would you say is your average spending per year on old cars? Not regular vehicle maintenance, etc, strictly maintaining, restoring, whatever on classic cars.

contribute a dollar amount so we can get an idea how much we put into this great hobby.

I'll start by saying for me it's likely on average about $3,000 per year. This past year was more with the engine/trans conversion on my car.

Same here 2500-3000 per year   40 years so far...

Oh yeah, that is how it was when I was racing - one time I figured out that I spent about 50 cents PER SECOND of track time ... and road racers do 30 minute races ...

Imagine how much tax the govnt. makes on all the old cars being sold over and over.Ah carl I dont spend that much. For years it was 5000 a year fixing and upgrading the Bird. The last few years Ive kinda lost touch with reality, with the Blown Alcohol stuff,So the last two have been 10 grand each. And I guess Two years ago I redid the wagon so that was about 6 or so,with the interior and body. What else would we be spending on if it wasnt cars?Im not much for drinking ,Cars are our drug of choice I guess you can say.Hey Dave Id hate to see how much per second dragracing costs!?The price of fun,eh...

Wow. I can't believe the #s you guys are throwing out there. Some years I spend too much and some years I spend nothing but I would average under $500 per year after the car was "finished".

Good point.  I read an article the other day that suggested 40% of Canadian income goes to taxes?
