I remember the day I got my license. I normally rode my bike to work. I swear that day both tires on my bike were flat! You should have seen the look of suspicion on my parents face when I asked to take the 77 Lemans to work!
Ya LT1 Roadmaster, I got to drive a 66 Valiant with a 6! and it was the small 6. I showed up to take my test in the middle of a snow storm. The guy said its snowing. I asked "don`t we drive in the snow?" He turnned to his co-works and said the kid wants his liecence bad. I passed
In the summer of 1965 I took my test 3 times! The instructor liked to be real hard on the boys! WE had to "parallel park" on a hill, and it was tough in a stick shift Morris Minor..... My mother gave him heck, and I passed easily the 3rd time....I still have that first licence...
Awesome! I still remember my first legal drive as well, not an LT1 Caddy, but a 70 SedanDeVille with a 472, not sure what Mom was thinking. Ah the good old days.
Congrats Carl, can't wait for that day myself to see my son get his license. I took my driver's ed in a Pontiac, well, half of one...it was a Firefly with standard steering. Gotta love a car where the instructor pushes in on the roof like it's a pop can! However, my first car was my Parisienne so i went from small to big quick! And the car i did a lot of my learning in was my dad's 83 Buick Century.
My son just got his learner's permit about two weeks ago. We're still doing familiarization on parking lots; not ready for the road yet but he's coming along.
Congratulations to your son Carl.

That was a nice Father and Son moment on film. Thanks for the pictures Carl. I got 6 years left........He'll have to pry the GTO keys off my dead body
Ah Kim, you'll loosen up. I purposely didn't put collector plates on my car so my kid's can drive it. Son turns 23 today but I've always been happy with his driving and if he takes mine I get his Audi with a 5 speed so it's not all bad. We both enjoy the swap.

Off topic but I took a colleague's Audi A8 Quatttro 4.2 out for a boot today. Sorry to say boys, that is one impressive car. Easily as much power as my Northstar and it is so stable and surefooted and corners like it is on rails. I flogged it pretty well and I liked it.

You're right as far as stable and man every bit of them is so solid. He has a Quattro 2.8 and his best friend has the newer model, I can't remember the model, but I can see why they have made there choice to go with these. He has a 75 GM 4 x 4 as his work truck and the vehicle that he pulls wrenches on so I think he has a good mix.
I once clicked off the traction control on our Fleetwood and smoked the rears just to show my son what it could do. Boy was he ever upset with me, it was like role reversal the way he went up one side and down the other on me!
Carl, On my Deville I love the traction control but on the Fleetwood I hate it too. I think the Fleetwoods have some sort of rudementary system that is very annoying and retards the spark or something quite severely. The car will still spin the rear tires with it on but some bad things happen to severely cut off power. I find it dangerous in some cases.
The Deville has a much more sophistaicated system that allows for some wheel spin before kicking in and actually enhances the control of the car, it's part of the entire Stabilitrack system. The Fleetwoods being much older technology don't have that.
My Park Avenue has the same system as your Deville. It saved my neck on the 401 this winter when a van in front of me lost control. I hit the brakes to avoid him and could hear the Stabilitrack kick in. Unlike the van, my car stayed straight.

Thank goodness you are here to tells us! This system uses a combimation of brake and engine control management, it gives you a very good sense of security, I've even felt it straighten the car on corners when it starts to skid.
