Meatloaf

No, not as in "Don't let your meat loaf har har har"

And not that sort-of-creepy weight-challenged guy who did those angst-ridden songs decades ago.

But the main course of your meal, ideally with potatoes and veggies on the side, that's what I'm talking about. And the question is: Do you like it or not?

For me, it is a comfort food. One I grew up with, not high dollar but the way Mom made it, tasty and satisfying. (And my wife has learned how to make it the same.) In fact when I am asked, for my birthday dinner, what I want, instead of filet mignon or lobster or turkey or any other delight, I usually say "Meatloaf."

But I am curious about how you look at it. Maybe your memory of childhood meals is bad, or your culinary expectations are higher.

So vote, and if you want, comment, eh?

Dave

Exactly!!!

(although to my eternal shame, I have a daughter who is a vegetarian, my fault for paying for her to go to a NE elitist university)

But somehow that translated to loving meatloaf.

Aactually, my dad loved gravy on white bread too ... and my mother made the *WORLD'S BEST GRAVY* which is a real art ...

Dave

Restuarant near the office, Monday Special, meatloaf, mushroom gravy choice of potato, vegetable of the day , soup or sald and roll - $9.99. It pretty good.

Best meatloaf ever was served in the dinning Room of Osgoode Hall years ago, with mashed and curly crispy onions. $6.99

My mother-in-law makes a pretty mean meatloaf too. hungry.gif

My wife makes the best meatloaf on the planet! Hand's down! Willing to put $ on it! I bring leftovers to work, the boy's steal it from me. She actually had to make one for my apprentice last time as he had called her to plead his case! I love it! The kicker is bacon on the top! Thanks for this tease though boy;s as I've been eating cabbage soup for the last week and I am sooooo hungry. Lost 7 lbs already. Works great 10 lbs a week if you follow it. me 6,1 205 lbs, shooting for 190/195 so almost there!

Some day we might have to do a meatloaf cook-off smile.gif

My mother made excellent meatloaf, it took my wife some time to come up with her recipe (I was stupid and did not get my mother's recipe before she died) and anyone who has had it says it is the best too biggrin.gif

We had lots of meals when I was a kid that "stretched" the budget with meat extenders, tuna noodle casserole was another one and I still like that almost as much as meatloaf - nah, just kidding meatloaf is way out in front.

Funny this should come up, that's what we had last night and loved it. We usually make 2 at a time and freeze one for a quick meal later. Probably eating too much red meat, must be the animal in me.

6 feet 2 inches for me, I would say I gained 2 lbs. per year of marriage plus I am a desk jockey, oh ya 28 years married.
