Iv'e had many of each. For driveabilty a small block(weight bias). Properly warm over a 400 inch small block and very few big blocks will stay with it. SMALL BLOCK all the way.............
I love the low end torque a big block can make. I'm not a big fan of the high rev'ing 427's a friend once built. 7000+ RPM and a big block - just doesn't feel right.
I do not like the gas mileage of BB's - measured in gallons per mile... They can be incredibly thirsty. I could live with it in my Beaumont with the number of miles I put on in a year, but as a daily driver? I couldn't stand the pain.
A well built SB can provide good fun and I can still have a few bucks for other goodies after paying for the gas.
I drove a DZ302 in a '69 Camaro once. Didn't really like it. It was like driving a 2-stroke motocross bike. Had to get it up to keep it up above 4500 RPM or the car wouldn't get out of its own way. Above about 5000 RPM, the thing really came alive!
I'll take mine supersized, please, 496 is about right
Dave
dam thats a perrty engine ya got there
Thanks. Once I get back to building it, I'll post pictures with the Brodix aluminum heads, Edelbrock air-gap intake, Hedman headers, Mighty Demon carb, etc.

Cubes are for Kids! Seriously my 400 s.b. with the 5.7 rod, 9.8/1 c.r. aluminium head makes nice torque, and h.p. and when I put a bit more gear in the rear, and get the rollerized cam in it it'll be enough for now.
Even though I'm leaning big block , I can't vote on this as the small block is too mighty. Nothin like a 302 screaming at 7000, or a LT1 for that matter.... The solid lifter rattle and low end snort of a LS6 or L78 can drive me nuts too...
Unless you are going to the strip a big block is useless. A small block can get you in more than enough trouble on the stree and is a lot cheaper to build. So my vote is for SB.

If you are only looking for a cheap way to get into trouble, you can do that with a 6 cyl. If you want to improve global warming and help reduce government deficits then the BB is the way to go.

Big is better biggest is best! I've got them all, 265,327,355,427,468 and now a real one-572 w aftermarket injection in a 67 Canso, should produce about the right power to weight ratio. Too many cars....too little time.
I like whatever is working and in my car!! Ive driven both in a 69 camaro, and i would say big block, but, i wasent paying for the gas and it is a drag car so i never drove it for more than 2 minutes!! (it was also on a city street) LOL
