PONTIAC Brand being rescued by Magna International of Canada

Just received an email addressed to the President of POCI.  Email as follows:

To the President and all the members of the Pontiac - Oakland Club,
Hello!  My name is Nick and I last contacted your club around Oct. of 2009.  I would like, once more to ask for your help in rescuing the Pontiac brand.

I ask for no money (unlike Savingpontiac.com), but only a little bit of your time and a few stamps.  First, I encourage all your members to send an E-mail to:

Tom.Demauro@sorc.com  Tom DeMauro is the editor of High Performance Pontiac magazine and he is asking people to write in comments concerning Pontiac's return.  He will then forward these comments to GM and the Michigan senators.  Also, we can urge a company called Magna to purchase the Pontiac nameplate.  Magna is a huge worldwide auto parts supplier with their base in Canada.

They also run assembly lines for some automakers.  Magna nearly purchased Opel (the German car) from GM last summer, but GM changed their mind at the last minute and canceled the deal.  This company has the financial resources and engineering ability to actually put Pontiac back into production.

It is up to us to convince them that this would be a great investment.  If they believe they can make a profit in this country, they could make it happen.  So Pontiac fans, let them hear your voices!!

What have we got to lose?  Here are the addresses:

Magna International
Attn:  President and CEO
337 Magna Drive
Aurora, Ontario
CANADA  L4G 7K1

Their U.S. office :  Magna International of America Inc.
600 Wilshire Drive
Troy, Michigan  48084

Remember, if we don't even try, we are doomed to failure.  But maybe TOGETHER we can accomplish something.  Let's give Pontiac a fighting chance.

Thank you for taking the time to read my letter.  Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.  Take care and have a pleasant spring.

Sincerely,

Nick S.

OK Canadian Poncho Members and Pontiac Enthusiasts what do you think.

Return of the Canadian Poncho?

My opinion is this. Pontiac at GM is not dead, it's on the shelf. GM did not sell Pontiac, they kept it.

When the time is right the GTO and Trans Am will ride again. Guaranteed!

Magna has been blowing smoke about building cars as long as they have been around... They even debuted a prototype once which as it turned out someone else built... I'll believe it when I see it.

if this is legit great, just remember that GM north america hasnt really designed a fresh concept on the car front for many a decade. They tend to take already created designes from other devisions and rebrand them. I have driven opels of europe compared to the crap sold here they loose alot in the translation. an opel base model of the 80s could easily cruise at 160 with good fuel cosumption i dont know to many base cars that could do that here back then. if it happens great

Now if they would start building 65 or 66 pontiacs again they'd have something worth selling! Stylish, comfy, roomy, powerful and simple. What a concept!

In response to 66 Grande Guy and GM building a '65 or '66 again; any '69 and earlier Pontiac would be great even if given the retro-touch, but after what I saw that they did to the GTO when they brought it back a few years ago? GAG!! Talk about a glorified Sunfire with the ugliest colour of yellow ever to hit the planet! I know we all love our GM's guys, but my hat goes off to Ford for the retro T-Bird and Mustang. I know it's all a matter of opinion of course, but the retro Camaro GM is producing now does absolutely nothing for this boy!
