Playstation 3 "YELLOW LIGHT OF DEATH" failure

My sons PS3 failed.  Got the dreaded YLOD failure.  I tried a DIY repair with no expectations and it worked.  I 'reflowed' the solder on select areas of the motherboard with 400 degree heat gun.  Cleaned, and added new thermal paste to the heat sinks, and its working fine again. I wouldnt try it on any machine under warranty, but if your next option is to throw it out, then go for it.  Complete disassembly required. Youtube provided step by step. (the pic is my ps3 this morning, and it is now back together and working.

Good for you! Anyone who can do up a car as quick as you did shouldn't even be challenged by a PS3!!!!!!

haha. Funny how things don't change. This is the same repair technique that usually works for old dead car radios!
